I just wanted some input on my next PC purchase of a 19"-20" LCD. I've been on multiple websites and forums looking and I think I more confused than before. And when I did have my mind set, I find that Dell  started using whatever LCD Panels are in stock (S-IPS and PVA) on th 2007WFP.

Here's My System Specs:

19"  Dell M993S CRT
19" KDS VS-19sn

Dell Dimension 8400
P4 3.2Ghz Prescott
2 GB DDR2
BFG 7900 GS OC PCIe 256mb
SB Audigy 2

Basically, I eventually want to replace both CRT's with LCD's to free up deskspace.

Any comments or suggestions with links would be appreciated.

Well, you can read my sticky on what to look for when buying an LCD monitor for additional considerations.  I would also consider whether your system will be able to run your games at the monitor's native resolution.

Agent_Dung_Bomb, Thanks for the respond. I did read your sticky, in fact I've read about 5 stickys on multiple forums....LOL. The best one I've read so far is on anandtech.com - LCD Buyer's Guide.

My graphics card supports up to 2560 x1600 @ 60Hz Digital and 2048 x 1536 @ 85 Hz Analog. I normally run at 1024 x768 @ 72 Hz (75Hz on the KDS) on the CRT's.

The monitors I'm looking at are either 1280 x1024 @75Hz or 1680 x 1050 @ 60 hz.

Here's the link to my Video card's Specs: Link

Still confused as ever. Basically, I'd Like to hear if anyone is running the monitors in the poll, and what you think of them.

I have the dell 20" Widescreen and it is beautiful. I'm running with a 7900GTX and my resolution is 1680x1050. Works well

You can't go wrong with any monitor made by Viewsonic or Samsung. My only suggestion is that you don't buy a widescreen for gaming. Since you're using it primarily for gaming, go with a gaming monitor only.

I probably should mention that the Main Use will be for gaming, the secondary use will be for Video Editing. My Third use is for Watching DVD's and TV with my ATI TV Wonder Card.

Worse case, I do my editing on my second monitor which will be my Dell 19" CRT.

<3 my 204b
Secksy as hell & great color reproductions when you calibrate it (Photoshop & such)

plus it's got a really thin outer lining thing so it doesn't take up any more space then it has to (but I imagine that's not exactly unique)

I'm getting a 2nd (to replace my 17") one because I like them so much.

*Edit:* I've heard not-so-good things about gaming on a widescreen but really, really good things about those Dell Ultrasharp monitors so if it's in your price range maybe look into a regular 20" Dell?

Must admit I voted for the Dell ....only because I have a Dell Ultrasharp ( not widescreen) and at 1600 x 1200 the pic is Fu*king brilliant

I'm either going to go for a Samsung 204b or a DELL 2007FP, both 1600x1200. Which would be better? Or should i destroy my "widescreens are evil" mindset and get a 2007WFP?

i have a samsung 205B, which i use as my gaming monitor (even though i have a normal screen as the 2nd monitor in a dual monitor set-up). widescreen is so much nicer for everything beside gaming (movies, internet, photoshop, windows, word, ... ) and the effect in games are minimal. in fact when i now play on 4:3 monitors everything looks all wrong. many games support widescreen and currently it looks like 16:10 gaming will be the future. also you usually get more desktop space.

I would go for the samsung monitor as i am a samsung LCD fanboy. all of their monitors i had were great and never let me down
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

they are. i think i'll get a second one and give my 4:3 monitor to my mum. currently all she has is a 6year old samsung 17'' LCD (which is still going strong but i think she deserves something better)

pm me if you have questions about the 205B's

and i'm feeling generous so here's some karma +1 (EDIT: crap, i misspelled my name in the karma wrong. grrr )

I've had the Dell UltraSharp 20 inch,. 1600x1200 display and loved it.  I upgraded to a 24 inch widescreen (also Dell), and never want to be without a widescreen monitor again.  More and more games support it, it's great for watching movies, and when I work with graphic/video apps, I have plenty of room for a work area AND all the floating toolbar things.  I know you're not interested in larger-than-20 inch monitors, but I thought these were good pros to consider in the buying decision.

Only real con is that I can't play some games (BF2, Oblivion, FEAR) at 1920x1200.  That's too much for a single 7800GTX.

Good luck!
