AFAIK he hasn't denied it.  He's said that if it's true, why can't Arab researchers see the primary sources.

Of course, I could well be wrong.  All I know is that the statements I've seen him make have questioned it not denied it.

"They have created a myth today that they call the massacre of Jews and they consider it a principle above God, religions and the prophets," he said.

Mr Ahmadinejad said he did not believe six million Jews had died at the hands of the Nazis last century.

There is a HUGE difference between Holocaust denial and people who want to test the evidence or people who dont believe the numbers that are being used

Mr Ahmadinejad said he did not believe six million Jews had died at the hands of the Nazis last century.
That's right, he doesn't believe that 6 million Jews were killed: there are many who question the accuracy of  commonly quoted numbers regarding Jews killed.

Further if you look at the direct quote it seems (to me, at least) that he isn't necessarily saying he doesn't believe it happened, but rather that the West has turned it into something akin to a religious observance.

In the first statement he call the massacre of Jews a myth. Seems pretty clear cut to me.

As I said: read the whole statement.  An excellent example of why I feel context is important.

No, you already gave the link, I just used the wrong word.  What I mean is that you could say that Ahmadinejad said:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote:

They have created a myth today that they call the massacre of Jews
But that isn't true.  What he said was:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote:

They have created a myth today that they call the massacre of Jews and they consider it a principle above God, religions and the prophets
Obviously this changes the statement greatly.  The Siege of Troy, for example, is a myth, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Myth: an unfounded or false notion or a story.

Sounds as if you are confusing mythology with the literal word myth.

But Troy is a myth, no?

Even then, it could be that something was (again) lost in translation.

Myth? The iliad? Yes and No.

Details = mythical.
Troy = not a myth.
Greece = not a myth.

Wow... OMG... thanks for DUHing ME into enlightenment.

Anyways, I though the point was Kmarion is forcing an interpretation on the use of the word: myth.

He says his interpretation is: literal - clear cut - implying all other interpretations are invalid.
If you look a couple post down I conceded due to lack of interpretation knowledge. Only someone versed in the language can confirm or deny what he meant. You showed up a little late. The point is near null anyways, I think most of know how he feels towards Israel.

With all the attention we put on Iran, it makes you wonder why we haven't put Saudi Arabia under the same scrutiny.  Both Iran and Saudi Arabia are funding the insurgency in Iraq -- they just choose different groups of extremists to support.

Until this talk of attacking Iran is balanced out with punishment for Saudi Arabia, I view this dialogue of aggression as just a neocon agenda of expanding conflict to countries we don't have comfy business relations with.

You can debate all you want about what you think he said or what it means...but that's pointless.

The FACT is that Iran wants Israel to go bye bye.

So who really cares if Auntjemima said...its what the majority of the country wants...so shall we continue to split hairs?

Not necessarily...  Ahmadinejad might want the destruction of Israel, but the average Iranian leans in the reformist direction.  I'm sure the average Iranian probably doesn't like Israel, but that's a far cry from saying it should be destroyed.

Well, I think we can agree that Ahmadinejad needs to be removed, but I have a feeling he's going to lose his next election by a landslide.

So bottom line is, after 3 pages of discussion, that the basic argument funneling aggression against Iran is not necessarily true, or important for that matter...

I've gone through hundreds of threads where anyone who wishes to justify their hatred for Iran ends up using that line as their sole argument. The fact that nobody gives a damn in the end whether it may have been a product of bad translation or propaganda, and therefore untrue, is a clear give-away.

The fact is, the US probably has quite a number of reasons for being hostile towards Iran, but none of them has anything to do with saving Israel. Ahmadinejad is an inconsiderate idiot as far as public statements are concerned, and completely incompetent in running the country. This seems to suit the US at the moment. The moron provides more than enough reasons for people to hate Iran...
