personally I think servers that are rotated alot don't get popualted that much, it's usually the 24/7 servers, like 24/7 wake, or 24/7 karkand
see i just like the no raping of uncaps cuz it just makes things more fun and even....as long as your not like a power hungry admin...then i dont see the problem in having a few rules....our server is by no means a rule exhaustive server. We have a few small rules, really the only main one is the no racism and disrespect and the no uncap attacking....and we give out multiple warnings before a kick or ban is issued...so i dont see that as a problem.Im_Dooomed wrote:

And no constant raping by a Heli....But if you got a lot of good players this isn't that big of a deal. 24/7 Sharqi with FF off with base & uncap rape allowed. Make the map size the same size of the server or less. Don't do IO, that's only good for 16 player maps and karkand.
The question is would you rather have just one person happy (yourself) or 24 people happy playing what they want. Your server, do what you want, but you would probably get alot of people on a 24/7 server, plus, you don't ahve to be in your server all the time.siciliano732 wrote:

I used to run a CZ server, and helped a few BF2s members work on a CS server and when I want to get a server populated this way ranks among the best.
Simple waiting for regulars.
Get your clanmates on the server, quite a few if possible and play around. Eventually people who want to screw around for a bit while the server gets populated start joining. These people are usually the bunch you want hanging around, just a trend I've seen with no real explanation, so get familiar with names you see more then once.
Have good admins. Not ones that want to fuck around, see what every command does and piss off the entire server (*cough*). Admins aren't around for cheating alone. If someone is being a douche or just plain stupid, warn then kick then temp ban. If that doesn't get the message across, perma ban is a quick solution.
Once regulars are on the server, you won't need to organize your clan mates in to hopping on every few hours. It will populate itself, and you will have a popular server

yea we have tried the part where we get the server started...play around for awhile, we get some pubbers in there but then...some of us have to go...the population drops and then it falls off the maps....i just got word from the higher people in my clan, we def have a 32 person server starting in the next few weeks...so that is good, but that is not the complete answer. As far as the admining....we do pretty much exactly that....we are not there to flex our muscles or anything, cuz its a game..have fun...we will warn more than anything...we are just lookin for ways to get people in there all the time so we dont always have to be waiting for clanmates to all get it started.Defiance wrote:

In Australia, we only have two lines of servers (internode and gamearena) and most people just type in gamearena or internode and pick a server from that choice, and rarely do a search for smaller servers. Anyway, a lot of the smaller servers that wouldn't get played otherwise, would put a small reference to gamearena/internode. There name would be something like "LOLOL MY CLAN SERVER NOT GAMEARENA OR INTERNODE"
that way, people would search for the big name servers, and find a nice little server and they all get played more. Imo give that a try. Put a big name clan server in your server name, but put lots of spaces and other junk so the reference can't be seen on the in game broswer.

ehhh, i dont know if thats how it works here in the US...i mean i have seen that type of stuff...but all the servers i play on except the "Insomnia 365" are all just random name/clan servers...right now we have the server set up as I/O....but saturday we are puttin other maps, vehicles, and no rules...so...its a free for all!gene_pool wrote:
