ive just been browsing through my BIOS and i have seen this Cool & Quiet shit

is it worth turning it on, will it increase the performance?

otherwise if it does nothing to affect performance ill leave it as my pc is silent enough

if you need to know the heatsink its a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro with some Arctic Silver on the chip

Cool n Quiet won't increase performance. It throttles speed and voltage when the CPU is under low usage. It's best to turn it off, but especially if overclocking.

yea it's pretty much worthless.

Got an ASUS board then?

its a god send on my rig, got to track down why its so noisy, but if your wanting performance, follow the above advice.  As if you put it on it will probably just run everything the same to keep you cool.

Yea no need for it, just keep it off and your cpu as cool as possible.

The difference it makes is virtually unnoticeable, in my case anyway.

That's actually a good way to judge it

All Cool n' Quite does is cause problems anyway.

20°C ?  I idle at 32!!

Is yours good  or mine crap.

what is everyone else idling at.  Or is it all dependent on so many other factors you cant bother comparing them?

the comp i just built (with arctic silver 5, stock cooler, 3500+) keeps the cpu at 24C at idle. no reason to use it on that machine. but the asus board i used for that has a lot of nice features that my own gigabyte board doesn't. for my next i build i might have to go with asus.

It depends on so many diffrent things, Components such as CPU and cooler (Stock/aftermarket/water/nitro) and what thermal paste, case/airflow and fans, then also has it been overclocked how much voltage increase with the overclock and then ov course as mentioned the room temp.

My FX-62 @ 3.2GHz idles between 28-30C
I've never once seen it break 40C under load & I have actually put some effort into it. I use water cooling though, Zalman Reserator 2 so it should actually be lower under load imo.

*Edit:* btw room temp is 68F, I have a massive Industrial strength cooler that makes sure of that
