Hey

Im running Vista in a VM (using vmware server) - happily working. XP is the host OS. Ive got a trial copy of office 2007 that i want to install on the Vista VM. But the office trial is stored in XP.

So does anyone know how to copy between VM and Host in vmware?

(Cant re download the file cos the internet doesnt wana work in the vm...)

Oh and i dont want to add my physical HDD to the VM... whole other can of worms...

you can share a local directory on your physical host. Edit the VM, look on options tab.

Also, if you are bridging, just go to the ip address, since both host and vm will have a lateral ip address.

Thanks for the help.

I did a bit of tinkering and managed to get the internet working (im posting this from in the Vista VM )

I was thinking along the same lines of shared directories and looking here http://www.vmware.com/community/thread. … ;tstart=60 but i just cant find the settings for it (feels dumb).

Might just have to redownload from in the vm...

Just wondering which (if any) virtual machine software do you use? Vmware? Virtual PC? Parallels? Ive got vmware server atm and virtual pc 2004, both running vista.

Vmware seems faster and has more features... so i think thats a kepper. Ive got virtual pc 2007 to try though.

Thanks again

On our team, we used to use Virtual PC at work for our different environments (since it was free), but I had us switch to VMware workstation. Mainly because of performance, but also because it splits its vhd's into 2GB chunks, and usb support. I run VMware workstation on my laptop, with vhd's on a portable sata drive, which runs better than my internal drive.

Our company runs VMware server to provide development environments for overseas.

I've personally used Vmware for sometime, especially for fedora and other non-win stuff.

did you end up finding the settings?

Cool...

I definitely think VMWare is the way to go. And VMware server is free!

Ive just been playing around with these at home... pretty cool having SUSE, Ubuntu and Vista running inside XP.

Good for deciding what OS to go for without risking any problems.
