By web design I mean going from the very basics to very amazing designs like the Total network, IMG websites (www.nxt-level.com for example), and of course our very own BF2S. I figure I might as well learn a skill that's useful and will probably be needed as long as there are internets.

Yes I know I could use Google and search for some, but I'd prefer tutorials recommended by users on here.

hmm, not sure about tutorials, but what kind of a site do you want?

www.w1lhelm.com is easy to make. Click view -> source and study

Photoshop lets you do it pretty easy as well. Just make an image, slice it up and "Save for web"

I guess it's XFire ftw.

You want to learn XHTML and CSS first.

Btw, nxt-level is an abomination as far as web design is concerned. Not what I'd consider "amazing".

Here is a good example of what can be achieved using just XHTML through the power of CSS:

There you can view the same page using different stylesheets.

I must have bad luck. Every tutorial I go to seems either too slow (AKA 3 pages on what HTML is) or too vague (Dareja sent me this e-book of 800 pages, it doesn't seem to delve into actual teaching of how to write it at all). I'll check out the W3C stuff though. Thanks for the links.

I had a shitload of tuts & stole from lynda.com (great stuff but you can't rightly dl anything) but I have a very bad feeling I lost them in a crash or reformat. Gimme a bit to check & see what I have on externals & discs

*Edit:* ya......*ahem*.....i fail
but hey, at least I'm not the only one that doesn't back things up

If it's something you need to learn i would def recommend buying at least a month at www.lynda.com because I learned tons of shit there, only bad thing is (besides $25/month) is you don't get the actual files to play along with unless you pay $250 for a year sub.

If you just want to learn it then just wait til you find some good free stuff, I'll keep an eye out for you.

*Edit2:*
AH HA!

Not got round to reading it yet though.

Books are better really, read whenever, wherever you are.
