i hate bunny hoppers as much as the next guy but i was wondering if a tactic i use was considered bunny hopping.

when using anti tank or engineer i have those auto shotguns as my primary weapon...i come into contact with an enemy an he is just outside close quaters distance so i ran directly towards him in preparation to shoot.   the shotguns have low accuracy the further the target distance is, so i run directly towards the enemy to close the distance and hopefully get the kill. (there is no point firing off all your rounds from medium distance cause the enemy will take some damage but nowhere near enough to kill him)  so as i am running directly towards the enemy i start to jump once or twice to put off his aim (i jump directly towards the enemy, not side to side) then when im close enough i open up with the shotty.

IS THIS ONE FORM OF BUNNY HOPPING THAT IS NOT REALLY BUNNY HOPING and DO YOU THINK IT IS FAIR (remember the enemy usually has a rifle and can kill me easliy at medium distance, whereas the shotguns are just annoying at that range)????

For me if you jump even once to avoid fire you are bunny hopping. I've done it once or twice myself. literally one or two bounces, and after rounding a corner I've cursed myself for doing it. It's incredibly tempting but for me I try and play the game using real life tactics, painful as it can sometimes be. I don't thik on the grade of bunny hopping that it's a serious breach that you've done though...

That was my attitude when I first bought BF2, but it kinda breaks the atmosphere when everyone else is jumping like fucks. So i just play to win now.

I just play the game, I snipe mostly, so I wait for them to land on the ground, then I aim a foot or two above their heads, so when they jump again...

POW, no head..If I am in close quarters I might occasionally hop, but when I am bored and have to walk somewhere far, i will hop

Extremes bunny hopping/dolphin diving is lame. One of 2 jumps ok.

I never bunny hop at all....not even once or twice, yes I get killed a lot but it's just a game. I'm not bothered about bunnies.... it looks silly but it's just another 'staying alive' tactic.... it's an annoying one, and i feel as if I want to give em all miximatoses, but it doesn't really bother me, much

If you see me bunny hopping to avoid your fire, then feel free to slap me senseless. If you see me bunny hop to try and get over a wall.... have a good laugh... 9/10 I usually fall on my ass

Do whatever you can to stay alive, people are only annoyed by insane dolphin diving and hopping is because they can't actually hit you easily. If you stood up still then they wouldn't get upset. Plus it's highly unrealistic but so is BF2 and the magical invisible runway pixies. "Need some more bombs, we'll haul em up to you as you fly over the carrier, we'll even repair you too"

Bunny Hopping isnt too bad IMO, its akward up close and ultimatly if they keep doing it they run out of stamina.

Dolphin diving is what is really lame, some people just constantly do that in encounters with enemys no matter what the situation.  I personally use single jumps now and again to help me avoid fire, usualy jumping out from behind cover, off cover or into cover.  I never repeatedly bunnyhop up close unless im reloading my gun and have no other chance for surviaval.

Bottom line is, it should be removed by the devs, repeat jump time is too high, and prone and jump times are also really lame.

I'm not a fan of bunny hoppin, or dolphin diving, and i do neither. But, if any argument could ever justify either, 'magical invisible runway pixies' would be it.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here (in fact to some extent I agree with you about "play to win"), but with that attitude, what's stopping you from hacking, or the map exploits?

I had the one or other occasion where I actually hopped and cursed myself afterwards, normally I have my two feet on the ground or go prone and die hehe

But when I am coming around a corner and there is someone I did not expect I jump, but only because it really made me jump with surprised. All that is missing is the "Eeeek!" sound

And I do jump when someone dashes towards me, knife in hand and goes prone. I don't want to die from one of these murderous "knife-in-big-toe-wounds"

See ya,

I was laughing at this topic, as I was just in a quest to get my knife badge (you can see in my K : D ratio that I took a big loss to get this stupid badge), and one of the main tactics used for most people to get this badge is to do one of three:
- Dolphin dive over obstacles to get at your prey and knife them (much like a Bruce Willis' Die Hard scene)
or
- jump from a building and attack your prey (a.k.a Space Marine being attacked by Aliens anyone?)
and finally,
- run behind a player and knife them in the back (Freddy Kruger is the best example I can give for these)

Notice a theme.... FICTION! Just like the game!
I know that if I jump off a building to land on someone... I don't loose 2 bars or health... I BREAK AN ANKLE!!!
If I dive behind a crate, and land on hard packed earth with my stomach, I get the wind knocked out of me, and some serious bruises...

So, because people want the game to match real life... why not ask EA to incorporate that a dolphin dive can happen, but it instantly drops your stamina to 0, and you take a bar or two of damage for doing it... This would basically kill your diving friend in about 5 to 8 tries...  This would make it a tactic that is used only in extreme conditions (like Jihad Jeeping should be...)

Just one man's opinion.

The problem with bunny hopping is that the hitboxes are really messed up when you jump.  I was spraying a bunny engineer with 2 full clips, and my target reticle was on him the whole time, but none of the bullets hit.  Then he nailed me with his shotgun

I think bunny hoping is running towards someone and jumping and fireing. if it's to get away and your not shooting I think it's acceptable.

This one time, in band camp...

I was walking down the street looking for "Bad guys", I saw this engineer running at me. I know the shotguns have low acuracy from medium to long distances so I zoomed in for the kill and he starts jumping... boy did it throw off my aim. He jumped directly at me, not side to side like some other lame bunnyhoppers, and he opens up his shotgun and kills me with 2 rounds.

I have often checked this site because of the nice stats, but I just joined because of this thread.  Why does everyone moan about bunny hopping?  It's a part of the game.  If somebody was going to shoot you in real life, wouldn't you use all your abilities to avoid taking fire?

Anyway, I have gotten banned from a certain clan server (SFR) for bunny hopping a few times.  Personally, I think it was an admin that was getting owned by me or one of my buddies.

if you jump at all.. it's bunny hopping..

people in real life don't jump that much for anything.

Now i'm not saying i'm for the hop. Infact i hardly do it myself, i actually only ever do it when i'm using a eng/anti tank.  just to be able to get in close enough for the kill.

now if you really wanna discuss horrible tactics, it's the bunny hopping c4 tossing child molesters i really hate.
