1. Introduction!

So your looking to become a sucessful squadleader eh? Well you came to the right place! A good squadleader is a key to winning a round of BF2. Now I'm not claiming I'm the best squadleader but ALMOST every round me and my squad are the best squad. Well hope you enjoy the rest of this guide!

1A. What You Are and Do.

You are a squadleader, there are many squadleaders like you but, you are YOU! OK, enough of that lets get crackin'. Your are a squadleader with squadmembers you are acting as a spawnpoint to them. You don't give a shit that much for points really. You might think I'm crazy but in order to win you have to let your squadmembers do the dirty work your just there to act as a spawnpoint and help cap flags. If your squadmembers don't want to follow orders kick them from your squad for someone that will. Well, that covers pretty much everything.

1B. Menus In BF2

There are two menus when you're a squadleader in BF2. The first one is when you press 'caps lock' and you right click on the map that will bring up this menu:

https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d144/airsoft4ever/Menu1.jpg
When you then left click on any if those bars it will either ask the commander for a request or give an order to your squad. Now the second one is when you press 'T' it will bring up this menu:

https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d144/airsoft4ever/Menu2.jpg
It works exactly the same as the menu when you press 'Q'. It's just a quicker acess to the commands/requests menu above. The buttons all mean the same.

Those are the two menus you additionally get when your a squad leader. Use the first menu if your sending out a command/request that's far away. Use the second menu if your sending out a command/request. Just press 'T' point at the destination and click on the one you want to.

2. Kills, Deaths ,and Points!

As mentioned before points do NOT matter to you as a squadleader. As for me I usually end up with 40-60 points, 10-20 kills ,and 5-10 deaths. I can go through a whole round have NO kills or deaths. Just having points from revives and captures of flags. Anyways, just try to follow this and that's always very good to do just to contributate to your team. Well that pretty much sums this section.

3. Routes!

Routes are a VERY important key to winning. A route defined in these terms and my terms is as follows: A route is a way of getting to a place (usually a flag) using side streets and back ways. I always go for the farthest flag and have half come with me and the other half go for the other flag on the way. An example is when either USMC or MEC have fountain (On Road To Jalalabalad) and I use side streets to go to Mosque. I have half my squad go to Market and the other half come with me to Mosque. That is a good method always to use to get flags. The route length never matters I don't care if it takes forever to get to a flag just get there. Never go into an area with no spotting of enemies/uav from your commander. And NEVER go into an area with MANY enemies! Always go into flag areas through the back or sides! Now here our some real BF2 Maps that are showing ways to get flags:

https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d144/airsoft4ever/RoadtoRoutemap.jpg
The map may be a bit hard to read just ask me if you don't get something. Those are just some routes to capping flags in Road to Jalalabalad.

https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d144/airsoft4ever/StrikeatRoutemap.jpg
Again, the map may be hard to read just ask me if you need something. These routes are in Strike at Karkand.

https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d144/airsoft4ever/WakeIsland2007.jpg
Ask if you need something about this picture. These are some routes in Wake Island 2007.

Just ask me if you want another picture of the same map or a different map. Seriously, just ask me anything about this stuff.

4. VOIP/Teamspeak!

Use a microphone IF you have one. I can't use one cause they never work on my computer =(! BUT, if you don't have a microphone use something like this to get people's attention:
*****PEOPLE GOING FOR MOSQUE!!HELP!!!!*****
I mean it's not that hard to miss something big like that. Teamspeak and VOIP are a must. They provide good communication through the players. VOIP is used on servers that your squad and commander can talk to you. Teamspeak is used generally with clans and they'd have to be registered for the one your using.

5. Kits!(Credit for the idea of this section goes to NOT thanks!)

Well first of all it depends if you play with vehicles or infantry only (Infantry FTW!). If you play with vehicles the ideal kits are: Anti-Tank (AT), medic ,and spec-ops. Spec-ops can C4 the entrance to a flag while they're capping it and blow the C4s up once a vehicle enters that way. Medic can just heal and revive which is EXTREMELY useful. Last, AT can shoot a SRAW or ERYX at the vehicle. Now say if the Spec-Ops guy died and he C4'd the vehicle just pick up his kit (Default key 'f') and blow the bitch up!

Now if your playing Infantry only the ideal kits are: Medic and Assualt.  Medic is good cause you have unlimited health, reviving powers ,and healing powers. I usually play medic the most in infantry only servers. Assualt is good cause it's made for killing infantry and that's just what your doing. All the other kits don't really matter though, support is good too. Anyways, my #1 choice for a kit would have to be medic.

6. Requesting Commander Assets to Keep Your Squad Alive!(Thanks .cat.!)

Usually if your a squadmember and you request for supplies or uav it doesn't work or the commander doesn't notice that. So as a squadleader it's your job to keep your squad's health and ammo supply up. So request for supplie boxes for ammo if there's no support. Always throw out medic bags or have someone. When your in a flag area always throw out medic bags incase enemies start shooting at you/throwing grenades. Then that way you just walk over one and get healed. If your squad needs some transport (vehicle drop) to get to an destination then request it. If you need your commander to spot out enemies or a UAV don't be scared to ask for it. That's pretty much all.

7. Conclusion!

Well I hope you enjoyed this guide and it helped you in some way. I probably left out some stuff but whatever. Leave any questions, comments ,or whatever! Thanks!

You put more effort into blacking stuff out in the images than you did the guide.

Good effort really. I mean for pubbers I can honestly say that this guide would help people. Maybe it's nothing new for experienced players/squad leaders but I think you made a couple good points. Especially about sacrificing your own points.

I'd add, be a medic. The main reason is obvious, you can revive teammates. But the second reason is because if you go down, your push is done if there aren't any other medics in your squad. At least this way someone can trade kits and revive you if you end up going down.

Also, never cap flags as a Squad Leader. Stay within sprint distance of the flag, but never close enough to draw fire. That being said, try not to be alone either. ALWAYS have backup, even if it's just one other medic. It's a noob mistake to run off on your own at any time.

I think a lot of teams, obviously in pubs, but in competition as well really underestimate the role a smart squad leader can play in winning a game. If you're mainly interested in racking up kills and points, squad leading isn't for you. If you're into really bothering the other team and winning the game for your team, squad leading can be extremely rewarding. Also, when you get kills as Squad Leader it's a lot more rewarding because you just defended yourself, but ultimately you defended your team's chances to win every time you don't die.

Please stop derailing. I'm pretty sure he doesn't hack. And if he does I still don't think there's anything to worry about.

Wow thanks man! I'll add in the medic section and give you credit for the idea to add it in. And yes its mostly for newer players not as much for experianced players. Usually I tell my squadmembers to spawn medics on me to help and that always really helps. I always have to sacrifice my points when Im a squadleader but I dont really care. Thanks!

EDIT: Picutres are just blackened out with a black square used in paint and NO I don't hack and NEVER will.

No problem. Obviously in a game with vehicles you'd want a few AT in your squad as well, but for infantry only it's very rare to ever really need anything other than a medic. You get an assault rifle, unlimited health, and revive ability. Nothing is more frustrating than leading a squad and having 4 snipers spawn in on you, totally unable to do anything useful.

Dude all your supposed to look at is the routes used in the map as I drew on the map -.- ok? And why does the black parts matter to you anyways?

EDIT: Yea I don't play with vehicles on Karkand or Road to Jallalabalad. Thanks!

4 snipers on a team, yes.  1 team sniper, on the other hand, is very valuable.  Especially on Jalalabad as USMC.  Spotting, counter-sniping, covering your back, and taking out Support.

As far as the first Jalalabad map, the hill approach doesn't really work on IO.  A good lone sniper on the fountain flag can take out a whole squad going down that hill.   Best approach is an outpost attack with snipers on the hills and rocks, with medic/assault doing a frontal assault.

You got Karkand tactics and Wake tactics all wrong.

Karkand-- Cap sqaure first then proceed to suburb/market. That way they will come and try and cap square leaving hotel vulnerable. Try capping hotel while you are at it.

Wake-- Yes, it hard to win as USMC but with your tactics it will make it even harder. If you are using VOIP and you know what Teamwork is then suprisingly it is actually quite easy. Ill run you through it:

Squadleader--grab jet flys over airfield-jet drop over airfield NO ONE spawns.Squadleader moves to flag, squad spawns.. Anti Tank kit
Caps the flag and pretty much wins the map--Blackhawk whore, chopper whore, 3 jets to whore with..Plain and simple.

You can do the same with a blackhawk just make sure as a pilot you fly real fucking high.

Apart from that good guide.

On the Wake route picture if you noticed there's a line coming from the carrier to airfield meaning to grab something that flies to get over there =P. On Karkand those are just ROUTES you could take...but w/e. Thanks!

isn't the default key G to pick up a kit? Besides from that, pretty good job, might need some more detail.
I often get frustrated by people joining my squad, me giving plenty of orders, yet they never do that, except if that is on their way.

As for Wake, yes you have showed the routes but you havn't really specifed. Your diagram pretty much just tells me to cap any flag which is pretty obvious. Maybe if you colour coded the various routes.

Just a tip if you actually want squad work. Then when people join your squad say over VOIP if you dont get medic im going to kick you. Then kick them. they normally come back. If they still arnt medic tk em a bit. Normally does the trick ; )

I think I remember your name. But anyways I play LCpl PWNEDbySportsman11 the LCpl is just the prefix I put on.

Fearmesnipers - I don't really get what you mean.

KMT - The point is not everyone has teamspeak so ya. Yea I like doing that on wake except sometimes I use jets.
