G'day,

I just bought a new 19" wide screen, and trying to get it working with BF2. I know about the command lines you have to put in, this is my command line:

Code:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900 +restart 1 +playerName -[Silver.Inc* +playerPassword ...
yet when I load into the game, it looks like a very stretched 1024x768.
Ive tried editing the video.con in my players profile:

Code:

VideoSettings.setResolution 1440x900@60Hz
But that just causes the game to crash when it opens.

Any help in achieving the reso of 1440x900 in Bf2 would be greatly appreciated . Thanks.

What vedio card fo you have/ does it support that resolution? It may not be powerful enough to run battlefield in that resolution.

Adding "widescreen" as a switch does nothing, change it back to "fullscreen."

Yeah, I just tried that, and if you put in widescreen, it has no effect on the resolution so you see stretched stuff.

Keep it at full screen like this:

Code:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Hmm, the menu looks weird when I open bf2 with +szx 1440 +szy 900 in it, it looks too big for the reso. In game everything looks in proportion :S. I'll take a screenshot.

here:

Does that look like is 1440x900, or a stretched 1024x768?

Modify your shortcut to:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

That completly crashes my game. Guess my monitor doesn't support that reso.

Use your monitor's native resolution. For your 19" it's likely 1440 x 900.

figured you could use common sense and insert the right resolution, you need to delete your bf2 folder in the my documents folder. restart bf2 and it should work fine.

deleting the folder was the fix to get your game to stop crashing on startup if you hadn't fixed that yet. i think that's what was meant to be said.

Ok, I deleted the folder, retrieved my account and it still looks like poo. It looks like its 800x600 stretched.

Anything 2D like menus, HUD, etc. will be stretched to fit. 3D elements of the game get the top and bottom cropped.

Stole this. but WTH...

To fix your FOV for widescreen mode:

Go into your 'Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\' directory.
Open 'VideoDefault.con' (if you're using the default profile)
If you created a new one, you'll have to choose the proper video.con file)
Look for the line that reads 'renderer.fieldOfView 1'
Change it to 'renderer.fieldOfView 1.1'

This will make everything else on-screen fit to a more accurate aspect ratio.

Yeah I did that.
On that stretching thing, is that probably why the menu looks stretched as well?

change the shorcut bit on all shortcuts.. "play bf2" and "playbf2 online" and if you have special forces do it on that to...

Changing FOV settings has no effect.

FOV 1.1:

Vertical and horizontal dimensions stay the same in the 3D portion, and HUD and menus still have the same amount of stretching. BF2 simply is not coded to run at anything other than a 4:3 FOV without stretching.

Is there any way to make the BF2 reso 1024x768 NOT stretched, just with the black lines on either side?

So long as you get the resolution set correctly for your monitor(probably 1680 x 1050) and can stand a bit of stretching in the menus and HUD there'll be no problems.
