You have to be at the respawn screen picking your next spawn point (to be officially charged the kill). You are kind of in limbo when you are waiting for someone to revive you.

You only get a death if you respawn. So if you are critcaly wounded and get revived it wont count as a kill, however if you get hit by an erxy or something similar and get a "you were killed" message then it counts as a death and you can not be revived.

No I am pretty sure it does charge you a death, I remember plenty of rounds where I had a lot of kills with 0 deaths as infantry, I get gunned down right near the end (critically wounded), don't get revived and I end up with
30-1 or w/e.

It only counts if you are wounded, but if you are hit by a rocket or in a vehicle, the death stands.
