most the movie is just about what the soldiers do when they aren't in action, 95% of the action is the last 20-15 minutes.

Great movie, ive seen it about 3 months ago. i also recently bought the book.

chickenmuncher, wheres the other 5% of the action? when that nerdy soldier lites the camp on fire and blows up the flares inthe truck? haha that was classic.

I agree with you, i mean i was hoping for shooting, terrorist bombings, and more war-lifelike action sort of like blackhawk down or imho the best war movie of the century saving private ryan. I like that movie and can watch it over and over cause it feels so real, props to Steven Spielberg.

Tony Swoffard wasn't disgruntled. He loved his time as a Marine. He was a bit upset that he trained so hard to become a sniper, and he never got to make a kill. He wanted "the pink mist". Shit, even his scout, the one who just looks for targets got more upset than him when they were denied clearance for a kill. Besides the point, Jarhead wasn't meant to be an action movie. It was meant to be a window into the Suck. To show what soldiers lives are really like. Great movie. 10/10.

Yeah, haven't seen it yet, but from the reviews it sounds good.

Andy McNab says its much more like it was, being there in R/L than BH down for example, and he is one guy who knows his stuff!!

I do think that the movie was ok but dont go into the movie expecting a war movie. when i think war movie i think.... saving private ryan, black hawk down, we were soldiers...etc. i expected it and waited the entire movie for the pink mist but no such luck. someone should have told me it was more of a comedy and i would have apprieciated it more. movie had so much potential *sigh* o well.

On the topic of war movies get 'Thin Red Line' it's set in WWII and based on the marine battles around Guadlacanal (if thats how you spell it) . It has to notch actors great action and a very stong story line.There is a cool scene in it were Woody Harrelson blows off his arse with a frag gren.

Dont think that im stepping on your tail snake but id have to disagree. i dont think that the thin red line was very good. they spent too much time getting as many actors as they possibly could that their storyline was lacking. but opinions are lick assholes, everybodys got em. sry im an action movie buff

It was not meant to be a classic "war" movie, it was meant to be like the book. It basically describes an infantry unit and the personalites who make it up. It does a hell of a job describing an Marine infantry unit, I would know. I am sure it is an accurate depection of other infantry units also.
