I wasn't sure where to post this, but seeing as there really is no debate, I put it here.

Anyone ever hear of Kiva.org? (It's a microcrediting organization.)

I say this because our Modern History/MUN class at school have raised roughly $2100 through donations, fundraisers, etc., for the sole purpose of lending money through this organization.

Just wondering whether anyone has ever been involved in microcrediting or has heard of it.

Edit: There, hopefully it doesn't look too much like an advertisement anymore.

What is Kiva? It's a microcrediting/mirofinancing nonprofit organization. It's the same as lending, but with smaller loans with very little interest. People in struggling businesses and developing nations can't really obtain traditional loans because of either bad credit or high interest, so people turn to microcredit. Creditors can lend a minimum of $25 to a person trying to expand or develop their business. It isn't a donation, but more of an investment (Although there isn't much monetary profit).

Just wondering if anyone had seen/heard/used this site before.

This sure sounds a lot like advertising.

There is no debate, hence the Junk Drawer.

Sorry, but I had no motive for advertisement. I was merely curious as to whether people here had heard of microcrediting and if they had done it themselves, Kiva is just one of the most well-known groups (aside from the Grameen Bank) that microcredit. I guess I'll have to edit some things to make it seem less like advertisement.

To each their own I suppose. I found microcrediting sort of interesting.
