Ok............here is my dilema. I have a server running NT Server and it is the Domain Controller. I need to upgrade this server to Server 2003. This brings the real problem of getting Network Manager to Active Directoy. Has anyone actually gone thru the process or know of where I can find some help in the proper process of going about accomplishing this.

I will be doing the actual conversion in about three weeks, and I have two dummy servers already set up to do a trial run on this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure what you mean by "getting Network Manager to Active Directory".  I presume you mean that you want the machine to remain a domain controller at the end of this exercise?  The approved method to introduce Windows 200x domain controllers is to first upgrade the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) of your network to Windows 200x.  I recommend you have a read of http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2 … toad.mspx.  It describes in detail the requirements for such a migration and some of the choices and considerations you will need to make in order to ensure a successful upgrade.

Once you have successfully upgraded your domain controller(s) to Windows 200x, you will be using Active Directory.  This means that the tools and concepts you've used in your NTLM environment are no longer relevant.  You will need to become accustomed to the use of the Active Directory Users and Computers console in place of the old User Manager application.  Learn DNS and learn it well.  If DNS is broken, so will AD be.

I suggest you read that document as a starting point.  You should also endeavour to get a hold of the Windows 2003 Resource Kit and Deployment Kit documents which are available on Microsoft's Technet site.

Cheers,
Max.
