My player's name is:  i--i

I am a Titan Ho

I wanted to share some techniques/strategies that I used to become a Brig. General on BF2142.  I suck at playing the ground pounding foot soldier.  I am really bad at it.  A total Noob.  I am 52 years old and am NOT fast enough to compete with the majority of the BF2142 players.  My mind and reflexes are not as quick as yours.  My fat fingers and mind don't connect like they did when I was young like you guys.  I recoginize this and as such, found my "skills" better suited in the Titan.  After playing many hours on the Titan I have learned a few techniques that I found useful.  Now, if you review my statistics you will notice that I spend 99% of my time on Titan maps, and actually on the Titan Gun Console itself.  Yep, a real true to life Titan Console Ho. I am the guy you hate, yell at, and curse during the game.  I don't care, because the Titan mode works for me. I paid $50 for the game and, as such, believe I can play however I want too.  But I digress...

My job as a Titan gunner is to do two things:  Get points, and keep the enemy from getting points.  To get points I have to kill the enemy.  To keep the enemy from getting points: I have to do whatever I can.  I keep this in mind while playing Titan mode.  "How can I deny the enemy from getting points and take my team to the win?"  To achieve this I need to use my senses.  Hearing, observing, timing and ability to move from cannon to cannon, or cannon to Titan AA gun.

A few things to keep in mind here.  You can only repair each cannon 2 times and receive points for it.  Repairing them beyond this will get you no points UNLESS there is a gunner sitting in the chair.  I have seen Engineers refuse to repair a gun as there is no one sitting in it.  I have different thoughts on this activity.  I continually repair the guns.  As I may want to use them if I see what is happening while the game is playing out.  At such a point in the game I won't receive any points for repairing the guns:  I really don't care if I get points for repairing the guns or not.  As I can jump into the gunner chair and observe what is happening on the ground, or in the air if the guns are always repaired.  I can't tell you the many times I have simply hopped into the gunners seat just in time to pwn a tank or chopper.  This adds to my point count.  I could not have done this if the gun wasn't repaired.  So, I keep the guns in green-ready status...just in case.

The Titan console has a display above each seat showing the status of the gun:  Green for ready and Red for broken (duh!)  Keep your eye on this display during game play.

During some point in the game you will see many things going on:  APC's with enemy podding on your Titan, spawn beacons on your Titan, and enemy choppers flying around and trying to land on your Titan.  You need to destroy ALL of these if you can.  The one thing that I really get pissed at is to see a gunner fixated on one silo.  He will continually pound the silo with cannon fire.  BS I say!  Two reality checks here:  One is that I cannot take the silo with you continuing to pound it, and you will most likely TK me if I do!  Next point: if you get fixated on a silo then you WILL definitely miss the choppers landing on your Titan and WILL miss the APC's.  You are NOT getting all the points you can and are NOT helping your team... Titan gunners need to continually searching for targets of opportunity.  Not being fixated on a silo.  I hope you get the point here!

You need to learn the "F" keys to move around the Titan console.

The "F" keys are F1 through F7
F1 will show you who is on the console and gives you an idea of which gun is available.
F2 is the rear cannon
F3 key is the front cannon
F4 is the right cannon
F5 is the left cannon
F6 is the rear AA gun
F7 is the front AA gun

The actual layout of the Titan console doesn't make sense to me.  Facing the console from the front of the Titan you see that the right side of console contains the F3 cannon and F5 cannon.  Which translates into the front cannon and left side cannon.  The left side of the console contains the F4 cannon and F2 cannon or the right side and rear cannon.  How EA set these up I have no clue.  I would have reversed the F4 and F5 cannons for clarity.

You can move around the console by using these "hot" keys.  Memorize them! I have gotten to the point that I can bounce around the guns and chase choppers and keep an eye on the ground troops movements.  (I wish I knew how to make a Fraps movie to show you how I do this.)  It would make you dizzy.  There are times when I am the only guy manning all the Titan guns. A great opportunity for me to say the least.  I have a ball pwning incoming choppers and then APC's within a few seconds.  (Yep, I am bragging)  It must look like I am playing a piano!

Keep the enemy off your Titan.  It is YOUR job to deny the enemy access to your Titan.  You need to destroy the enemy APC's, tanks and choppers.  Don't rely on your teammate to do it!  Using one or two of these ideas may help you in getting more points.  The thing I really want to stress is that just because you are in the Titan, does NOT mean you aren't part of a team.  Do your part!  I do move around the Titan as needed.  I don't stay camped on the console all the time as it may sound.

Let's Begin:
1.  Repairing the Titan's cannons:  If you are in a firefight and some AA gun in pwning your Titan cannons...  Don't waste your time repairing the cannon to full health.  You'll never get them to full health while the enemy AA gun is owning you.  Repair the cannon til it just turns green, quickly hop in the gun and take aim of the AA gunner.  You may get a shot off and you might not.  Depending upon if the cannon is charged up enough to fire.  Most important thing is to get it targeted on the AA gunner.  If the AA gun blows up your cannons, then repair the gun til it is just green enough to fire.  Jump in and fire.  90% of the time you will kill the AA gunner. THEN you can go ahead and repair the cannons fully.  My point is that I have seen engineers standing there thinking that you need to get the cannon repaired completely before jumping in to kill the AA gunner.  Don't need to!  KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE RED AND GREEN DISPLAY ABOVE THE GUN CONSOLE.  This tells you when you have repaired your gun!  I consistently have my player looking at this gun display while repairing it.  The blow torch "timer" in the middle of your screen will also give you indications on how the repair is coming along.

2.  Timing and listening:  You need to "time the repairs" necessary to your Titan cannon.  Remember, that the ground based AA guns will heat up and stop firing.  This is a GREAT time to quickly repair the cannon so it is just green, and pwn the AA gunner.  LISTEN to their shells hitting your cannon...they will stop after a few seconds.  Take action, repair just enough to fire them, pwn the AA gunner.  The worst thing, and a huge waste of time, is to stand there repairing the cannons until they are fully fixed.  Most likely you will never get it fully fixed.

3.  Know when to NOT repair the Titan guns.  This denial of a target to my enemy actually cheats or steals points from him.  During the times that the Silos are all owned by the enemy; and the ground based AA guns are relentlessly pounding your Titan hull.  STOP repairing the bottom Titan guns.  Why give the enemy extra bonus points while you stand there with your blow torch fixing the Titan cannons?  Hop in the Titan AA guns and watch for choppers.  99.9% of the time they will be working.  I have only seen one time when they were blown up by choppers.  Pilots know the Titan AA guns are lethal and will stay away from them.  The Titan gunners need patience at this time.  So, you can do one of two things.  Pod off the Titan, knife the enemy AA gunner, and take the silo yourself FTW (which I will do) or stand there, waiting.  Waiting will NOT get you points nor help the team.  Waiting will NOT deny the enemy from getting points.  Kill those enemy bastards.

4.  Tired of your Titan cannons getting pwned?  Here is what I do.  Since you have the Engy kit has a fairly accurate weapons cache, go to the side of the Titan that the ground based AA gun is firing from.  First, make sure the Titan shields are down!  Kill the annoying AA gunner with your rocket launcher.  I have seen, too many times, a player stand there and repair the Titan guns over and over again.  The ground gunner racking up many points and you helping him.  Stop it!  Move to the side of your Titan and find him in your cross hairs and kill him.  It surprises him and you get a kill.  I have actually taken this opportunity to pod out or parachute to the ground based AA gun and KNIFED his dumb ass.  What a pleasant surprise, a knife in his ribs and dogtags for you.  Ground AA gunners rarely look around as they are too fixed on their Titan Destruction Medal and 20 points!  Better yet, TAKE the silo and receive more points.  While you are down on the ground spread some more cheer by laying all your mines!  The enemy just loves those round ones that chase their vehicles!  Then find an APC and pod back into your Titan.

5.  I hate enemy spawn beacons on my Titan.  Pisses me off to see the enemy drop in from the sky and try to blow up my ride.  If you are on the right Titan you can simply go to the side of the Titan and walk up the rails that go from the deck to the roof.  Pod to the roof if you can't use these side rails.  I don't recall which Titan has these rails.  Either EU or PAC...  (Alzheimers is starting to kick in. I told you I am old)  Anyhow, use your weapons to blow the spawn beacons.  While you are up there, might as well sharpen your blade on the enemy that is pwning your Titan AA guns.  The enemy engineers that use their rocket launchers to blow up your Titan AA guns will most likely be paying attention to their target and not expect a blade in their back.  More dog tags for your collection!

6.  I also hate enemy choppers that land on my ride!  Use the same technique to either climb or pod to your Titan roof.  Use your rocket launcher to deny the enemy a spawn point.  If any member on your team has a brain, then they will either fly the chopper off the Titan or hop in then hop out of the chopper, making it a spawn point for your team.  Otherwise, take matters into your own hands and blow up that chopper!

7.  Getting bored?  Titans are relatively close to each other?  Move to the ledge on the side of your Titan.  Just outside the hangar force shield and use your rocket launcher, and begin blowing up their Titan guns.  Getting annoyed at the enemy AA gun spamming your Titan...takes only three shots to take it out.  All the Titan guns will need three direct shots to blow them.  Get lucky and you might get the Titan cannons with one shot!  Providing there is one of your guys shooting at them from the AA ground guns  Even better, if your attack chopper is trying to fry them too.  Again, timing is important here.  Try to hit their guns just after they have regenerated.  Blow them just after they come back and you will get a one shot kill.  Four blown guns gets you a badge and 20 points.

8.  When the enemy cannot pod onto your Titan, then they will obviously have to fly.  Get ready for some serious point action.  Firing the Titan AA guns takes some practice.  Remember, to lead your target...  The closer the choppers get the less this becomes important.  Most choppers will contain two or three enemy attackers.  Jackpot is to hit one fully loaded with 7 people.  ChaChing!  Get good enough on the Titan guns, memorize the "F" keys, and you will become a formidable defender with some weapons at your disposal.  Main point here is to get good enough to know when to switch from the front gun to the rear gun at the right time.  Remember to lead the choppa as if moves...  Many times the pilot MAY be smart enough to fly between the lower Titan cannons and the upper AA guns.  Well, you can't get them all!  But raise Hell with them by firing the AA guns AND the cannons...Drives them crazy and makes them nervous.  Sometimes they screw up with all the fire coming at them.  When the choppas come from the rear I will bounce from the F2 key to the F6 keys, spamming out gun fire.... ROFL.  They either over-compensate by moving up or down.  Then I am can kill them!  If they do land.  I also have the option of either walking or podding to the Titan roof and shoot them with my rockets.  This is when you should really get in practice switching from gun to gun.  I cannot stress the importance of memorizing the F keys.  I have had numerous kills first destroying an APC, then quickly switch to the AA guns destroying a chopper with in a second or two.

9.  Know what is going on around you while in the Titan guns.  Are you in the AA guns and see enemy pods coming from the F4 side of your ship?  Switch to the F4 cannon and look for them.  Continually scanning the land ALL AROUND will reveal enemy soldiers and equipment!  DON'T get fixated on a silo.  LOOK AROUND!!!  Carefully scan the area that pods are flying in from.  Watch for infrantry ground movements as well.  See that APC trying to hide behind that tree or wall?  Nail it!

10.  LISTEN!  You CAN hear what is going on around you if you listen!  The Titan console is in a hanger bay.  Friendly choppers are louder than the enemy choppers approaching from the outside.  You hear a lower pitched sound coming from outside?  Jump into your F6 and F7 guns.  It might be an enemy chopper.  Do you hear the ground AA fire coming to an end?  You can almost count how many rounds they can fire until they heat up.  Repair the Titan cannon QUICKLY and then hit your "F" keys and see if you can kill him while his AA gun is cooling down.  Do you hear slow steady shots from the Titan roof?  Bet you it is an enemy engy firing at your Titan AA guns!  Hear an enemy spawn beacon on your roof?  Go and investigate/blow it up!  I can recall many times an enemy pod landed near my Titan AA gun, and shortly after I hear the enemy voices: "Team, spawn beacon is now active."  My turn to take some dogtags and clear my ship of enemy.  Remember, the Pilum and rocket launcher each have 6 shots.  This number can easily knock out each AA gun.

11.  I have to say one more thing about repairing the Titan guns.  When the enemy engineers are using their 6 shot Pilums to pound away at your guns, you can actually mess with their heads.  Start repairing the guns immediately as they hammer away.  Counting their shots.  With timing and luck they will only get one Titan attack bonus with their 6 shots.  I love it.  They wonder why the gun is not getting blown to bits after the third shot.  Your repairing blow torch WILL out last their 6 shot limitation.  However, looking out from your AA gun or Cannon seeing an engy sitting with an ammo crate will piss you off!  I will most likely NOT repair the Titan guns as he will continue to get points if I do so.  (I wish I knew how many times he can replenish his ammo from a crate or ammo box).  If the engy is sitting on a crate I will let him blow up the Titan guns.  Then laugh as he gets bored waiting for my repairs...which will never come!  Then, if the enemy is on my roof I will move there and introduce him to the sharp blade of my knife.  He will most likely be fixated on the AA guns and not be paying attention to me sneaking up on him!  One more dogtag for my pile.

11A.  Same thing may happen with an enemy engy on the ground.  He may be camped out next to an ammo crate and contiously pounding the Titan cannons.  At this time, I will not repair the cannons, either in hopes he will get bored, or get killed while waiting.  I have also been known to launch out of the Titan, sneak up, and knife him.  I will first try and shoot him with my rocket launcher from the side of the Titan.  If a engy is directly underneath your Titan and camped out with a supply crate...then you will NOT be doing much until he is dead.  Your cannons will not be able to hit anything directly beneath you.  I have seen many Titan engineers repairing the guns and completely oblivious to what is going on around them.  Not knowing they are being assaulted by someone directly beneath them.  The "8 rule" applies to ground based fighters.  They will NOT earn any more points for destroying the Titan guns after they have destroyed the guns more than 8 times! That means they can only earn two destruction badges and 40 points in all.  Destroying the Titan guns after this is purely for their own pleasure of denying you the use of the Titan's guns.  I say Knife their arse!

12.  Visual clues can be used to your advantage.  If the Titans are lined up perfectly you can actually look out your hangar and see the enemy Titan.  When this happens I will move my player around my Titan console as to watch the Titan's activity while repairing the console.  Many times I will be repairing my guns and see a chopper take off from the enemy Titan.  Jumping into the console AA guns and hitting my F6 or F7 key I might be able to shoot it down.  Jumping up on the Titan console between the guns may provide you with a better vantage point to watch outside.  Watch for pods or chopper     s flying around.  I see them as opportunities for points.  The one thing that I really can't stand is to jump into a pre-occupied console gunner seat, and find the previous player had the gun all twisted around facing the wrong way, fixated on one silo.  All the while several APC's were nearby spamming enemy pods to my Titan.  LOOK AROUND AND LISTEN!

13. DO NOT SPAM AA GUNFIRE AT THE ENEMY TITAN SHIELDS.  This only adds to the lag.  NO TITAN GUN CAN DESTROY ANOTHER TITAN GUN!  You can spam AA fire until Hell freezes over and you will never do any damage to the enemy Titan.  Spam AA gunfire to the roof of the enemy Titan = teamkills.  Those are YOUR teammates wandering about on the roof of the enemy Titan.  Respect their actions by not killing them.  Otherwise, you WILL have a knife in your back while you man the Titan console.  They will get pissed and come and TK you.  (Not from my experience!)

14.  DO share your Titan console with your team mates.  I will get up when someone "nudges" me with a bullet!  This action gets my attention and I hit the "E" key to see what the heck is going on around me.  Usually, it is another player wanting to check things out on Titan guns.  They will eventually leave as they will not have the patience to sit and wait for targets.  If there is nothing going on with the guns then head over to the edge of the Titan and throw out your mines if you have any.  I have gotten lucky kills by spamming my mines over the side during game play.  Run out of ammo?  Maybe head to the cargo bay and reload if there are players down there.  While there, kill some invaders!  Close to another Titan?  Rocket their guns for attack bonus points.

15.  Don't Spam the silos with cannon fire from the Titan!  You want to TK someone?  You KNOW they WILL punish you for it!  Take a look at your Heads Up Display  (HUD)  See those blue round dots?  Those are your team mates!  The red dots are the enemy.  Got that?  I see moronic ass clowns doing nothing but spamming the silos and they wonder why their scores are shit.

16.  The ground based AA guns.  These are the Titan's enemy!  What I like to do is when the Titan is parked are has stopped, and I see an AA gun nearby.  I shoot cannon at it until starts smoking,  Then I stop.  Reason:  if by chance some suicidal enemy dude runs up to it and starts shooting me, then I will most likely kill him very quickly.  As opposed to have him sit in the AA gun and rake my Titan cannons.  Just an idea that I use!

17.  When a chopper approaches from the rear, try this:  Switch between the rear cannon (F2) and rear AA guns (F6).  I fire the cannons as high as I can at the chopper.  This usually makes him panic and rise up just enough for me to hit F6 and pwn him with the AA guns.  Sometimes I switch back and forth a couple of times in order to hit him.  Really shakes them up.  Usually, some chopper passengers will bail out.  I end up pwning them while they run around on the ground with my rear cannons.
Some of this may seem common sense to you.  But, believe me, I have seen some real freakin morons play this game!  I try and give them advise during game play.  However, since they "know it all" they don't listen.

That's long... I really don't have patience to read it since I have sat in titan guns a bit too, but it just doesn't fit my style. Though the beginning was nice so I assume it's nice overall.

Read it all.

Absolutely fantastic, definitely a request here to put it into the Guides section! I already use some of his techniques but learnt quite a few more! Very handy with those gun seat guide, that will make me switch easier! Just a matter of remembering them now, heh.

Great job, +1!

I'm pretty sure mods don't take too kindly to 2142 bashing in the 2142 section.

Anyhow, great guide, i play titan mostly, and use the guns every once in a while. Bit too much use of the word pwnd in that , but a good guide nonetheless. Should be added to the guides section IMHO

Nice! Saved me some extra thought for that (new) side of my game. I'm going to do the whole Titan thang myself when my reflexes won't cut it on the ground (which is... half the time, heh). Thanks!

I was trying to be "politically correct" in case there are tender young children reading through these forums!

But the last word in your sentence probably best covers me best!  Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
