If it wasn't for stats, I reckon more people would be playing mods than normal BF2. Mods like BF2Pro, Project Reality and POE2 are better than BF2. But people never play them, why? Stats. People get too caught up in the numbers and don't play mod servers because they arnt ranked, therefore don't get their precious, precious numbers.

Stats turn people into whores
-Most- people get the J10 on wake, M1A2 on karkand, MI28 on sharqi round after round after round after ro... for one reason...to get a good KDR and improve their stats. No one else besides you gives two shits about your stupid numbers on a website. You rape people in a game who are absolutely defenseless against you as soon as they spawn (TV station, Karkand alley), now wheres the fun in that? There is none. So why do you do it? Oh sir..I just want a good KDR! I just want 10 more hours in a tank to get this rank!
People spend countless hours throwing nades, resupping, throwing again. For what fun? To retain my #1 spot in bf2 sir. If i'm #1 I win the internet.

People flop out the e-penis because of stats
Omg! Look at me! I have a 33 KDR! Who cares. Stats mean shit all when it comes to determining a players skill level. "You suck, lol, you only have a fucking 1.5 kdr, fuck you, you suck." How can you, just by looking at ones numbers, judge their skill? You don't even play with them and you judge them. Fuck off.

Knife and Pistol servers, whats so bad about them?
Why the fuck does EA not allow them? They are fun (atleast for 1-2 rounds, then they get stale). People get high scores in them, what the fuck does it matter, they are just measly little numbers. People should be able to have fun on them, rather than knowing the server will probably be closed down in a week because EA. god of all gods, told them to.

Stats ruin the 'team' aspect of BF2'
Very rarely do you see a squad working together well. Instead of capping a flag, people want to sit behind the known spawn point and set up camp on the people who are about to spawn. The game is supposed to be about winning the round, not who gets the best KDR.

i agree with every single point here.

yet ive always found tracking my stats as i play this game (usually just competing with myself) to be part of what makes it fun. in some weird way it makes the time you put into the game add up to something rather than nothing so it keeps you into it compared with other games.

so this brings me to a final point for your list:

Stats make BF2 addicting like an MMORPG

You can play 100 hours of BF2 but your account will suck. The only way you can have a "cool" account (bear with me) is with long hours of accumulating points and skill. If you didn't have any account at all, you would probably play fewer consecutive rounds, etc and would maybe switch off between bf2 and other games rather than bf2-marathoning (or god forbid get up and do other things). I know that looking at my stats determined a lot of my expectations. Like when I first played the game, to my current standards, I was horrible (but i was having fun and probably thought i was pretty decent), and it wasn't until I started paying attention to the score and my account that I realized all the ways I could probably improve. and that quest for improvement is what has kept me with the game. and even though the ranks themselves seem so stupid when you are a newb, once you have like 50,000 points or something you sort of recognize how far youve come and feel BIZARRELY motivated to reach additional ranks, 20,000 points at a time.

ive had fun all along, but i can tell you i would be less involved in BF2 if I hadn't been developing my account over all this time. despite the fact that friendships and the fun of the game also factor into the amount of time i play quite a lot. Its just really similar to an MMORPG, its a fun game that gets more and more fun if you invest your time in it. And even though BF2 is skill-based and doesnt involve just gaining free power for time invested like in WoW, BF2 is so full of particularities (like where on targets to shoot, and what weapons are worth using against what targets, and that u are pretty much invincable against noobs while going prone+strafe) that it ends up rewarding people way too much for simply wasting their time learning all kinds of details in-game. anyway, im starting to stray from the specific topic of stats. sorry if i am being too cynical for you guys but i dont mind bashing my favorite game for a second.

Eh, i could live without stats. But you got to admit its nice to jump on your stats page and go "oh cool, only a few hours before i get *so and so medal*" Or "Wow, i cant beleive i have spent 1200 hours playing this pitiful game"

it would pretty well be fixed if they would add the bonuses for following squad lead commands from 2142 into bf2, but i'm sure as shit not holding my breath.

I like stats, it's fun to see how much you improve, and how you 'compare' with other people. I know you can't really tell how good someone is by looking at their stats, but it's a good indicator.

I don't really play for the points though, i just play to have fun, the stats are a bonus (although when i'm close to a badge/ribbon/medal i'll go for it)

I find your post extremely hypocrytical. I know some people prefer IO (no jet/tank raping etc), but if you wanna play IO your far better off getting a real fps for it, bf2 IO is crap.

stats are one of the best aspects of bf2, adds endless replay value and goals to achieve

Oh and point 5 about spawn camping. DONT PLAY KARKAND. go play a real level like kubra or fushe pass
I play IO because its fun, its fast paced and theres always something to kill. I don't like playing full rotation maps (unless i'm in a chopper or jet) because I don't like the large maps and how slow the action can get there. With IO theres always going to be something to kill and your never far away from the action.

BF2 IO is very good, one of the best out there (besides the rego factor) cs is crap.

Karkand is easily the best map. Fushee, or any large map for that matter, is boring because of the dependence on having a vehicle.

I agree about stats being good for setting personal goals and keeping the interest in the game, but somebody who plays solely for stats is silly.

The only reason I don't download mods is the large file size. I have a download limit to consider here.

Who knows? Perhaps some people DO find repetitive actions fun.

Not me, however

Well, if someone DID have a 33 KDR with less than 5% kills in vehicles, then you may have a skilled player. But for the most part, you are correct.

IMO, these kinds of servers are the same as '24/4 *map name here*' servers. Its just the same shit, over and over and over and over......

If you like this game at all, why do they limit themselves?

I bring you back to my 'Repetitive Actions' argument from earlier. Some people may find it fun.

on a serious note if their were no stats i probably wouldnt get AS mad by dying by claymores and such but i would still play bf2 if their were no stats.... its still better than CSS or any other online FPS for the PC even without stats

Can i get a rebuttal on point 5? i never get spawn camped on any level except karkand. Your argument is as if karkand is the only level in the game. Spawn camping is not a problem in this game, and has nothing to do with stats or teamwork. Its all about karkand.

A lot of people find kubra/fushe boring because thier g36E's dont work on tanks, they cant nade spam for massive k/d's and why on earth would they ever have an AT squad? How would they be able to revive whore all game?

Theres spawn camp on (from what i've seen) Mashtuur, Karkand, Sharqi, Jellybean to some extent. Notice that they are all the city maps. Because on city maps spawn points are relatively close together, people will be spending more time near a flag and therefore will get to know the places where people spawn more.
Its less likely you'll get spawn camped on a map like Kubra because the action is more spread out, there are more flags to cap with a further distance between them. It is more likely for the action to happen between flags rather than in the flag radius. Not all people will spawn at the same flags like city maps, because there are a wider variety to choose from. On IO its common sense to spawn at the closest flag (on most occasions) to the action so you don't have to walk as far. Its hard to explain but yeah.

GG silver.

I love my stats, they are what has prompted me to become a better player. I do not think I could kick as serious an arse as I can now if I didn't have that constant imperative after every nights play. Checking my stats and driving them up slowly is personally enjoyable to me.

I also rate people by their stats. Fark, I'm a bank manager, life is all about numbers to me.

And like silver I play IO because it's interesting and to me is the most enjoyable way of playing the game.

You're perfectly right.  Now that I don't care about BF2 stats, I have the most fun and even get a better KDR than I used to, caring about stats.  It's completely psychological how well you do in game.  If you're in a good mood, relaxed, and just ready to have fun, you'll do well.  If you're all "OMG mah statz!! n00b!", you'll fuck yourself up.

Stats have definitely ruined the game for me, when compared to 1942 at least.

I think it goes both ways, yea stats kinda do ruin bf2 because they make some players crazy "ZoMg Statzors" which is why there is so many gay rules about "no base rapeing" and so on. But then again if there was no stats i doubt bf2 would be as popular or last as long as it has. If i couldn't earn awards n stuff, i wouldn't play Bf2 half as much as i do. So i vote Null.

Thats funny, because when I play IO (Which is basically every day), there are always less than 5 Medics on my team.. most the players seem to be playing Support, Sniper or Assault rather than medics. To be honest people just generalize OI nowadays, sure there is nade spam, on Karkand.. non IO there is nade spam on karkand.. any size map there is nade spam on karkand. It's just the way the map way built, the USMC rush the MEC front bases, what are the MEC supposed to do when there are 20 people running down the hill? No player can take them all him/her self. I'm not mentioning any other maps because IO is 80% played on Karkand, its the most talked about map, the most hated map, and the most liked map.

Answer: Nade.

PS: It's not hard to jump from a nade, or don't freaking run down the middle like a lemming, FLANK.
PPS: If its in the game, use it.

I think K&P servers are lame 'cos it's a cheap way to get easy knife and pistol kills. I've got around 1300 knife kills, all legit.

I don't think stats made bf2 all that bad,it's still a good game.

But ask yourself this,if stats weren't in Bf2 would you have all the servers you have now?I get around 700 populated servers, with stats gone people wouldn't still be playing.
