I wanted to connect my PC to my TV so I could watch films etc on the bigger TV screen.

So a few days ago I got an S-Video to Scart cable going from my PC to my TV, I can get a picture of my desktop and explorer etc. and I can play MP4 and DVD movies on both the TV and PC, but when I try to play any other type of movie format I can see it on my PC screen but not my TV.

I've tried playing Mpeg, Mpg, Wmv and avi and none of those play on my TV screen, only the PC. I just get the sound on the TV and a purplish black picture.

Could it be a codec problem? I wouldn't think so as it plays on the TV screen.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try this:

  • Set you monitor as primary device and TV as secondary (I'm sure it's that way already)
  • Activate fullscreen for secondary display video playback. For ATI, this is called "Theatre-mode", I believe.
  • Play video. The video should be automatically fullscreened on your TV.
  • Reply to this thread if it worked or not

On my old TV I tried to hook the s-video and the resolution was so bad it sucked!  Then I got a 40" HD LCD and now it rocks my socks!

What kind of TV are you hooking it up to?

In your stettings set it to dualview or clone.  I like dualview better.  If u use dualview u need to drag the window over to your tv moniter.  It could be either left or right side of PC screen depending on your settings.  Then just double click to full screen and it should work.  You need to have half of the window on PC and half on TV.  Just make sure that it goes full screen on TV.  Let me know if u have a prob.

I had it set to "clone with PC" :

I set it to fullscreen Theatre-mode, but that still diddn't work.

But after messing about abit with the settings I found that doing "swap display mapping" fixed it, now I can see the videos on TV, however not the PC screen anymore, but that's ok.

Remember to switch it back after viewing, though!

Good to hear that something worked!
