Being Germany's "medical capital", Erlangen is famous around the world (and especially around the American soldiers who were based here until 1993 ) for its big beerfest, called the Erlangen Bergkirchweih:

Most alcohol consumed per capita of anywhere in the world, on St. Patrick's Day (props to UMR, Ft. Wood, drunken yokels...). This was apparently confirmed one year in the past (might even be in the Guinness Book of Records), but I'm not sure if it still holds true.
But it might.
Oh and some crazy just claimed to have anthrax and a bomb in a bizarre attempted suicide-by-police attempt here...you might have seen it on the news. (Once again, big props to UMR)

My town takes the cake.
On Aug.16, 1992, TV personality Geraldo Rivera and his entourage sauntered into the small city of Janesville to attend a white supremacist rally hosted by a local Ku Klux Klan member. Rivera scuffled with one of the supremacists, and the Janesville Police charged him with battery.
search janesville, wisconsin on google and you'll see a little wikipedia thing on it. I couldn't find a whole lot so meh. Makes our town look like a bunch of racist pigs, where the truth is the guy who held the ONE KKK rally here wasn't even from Wisconsin. Oh well, w/e

I live in Lancaster, Ohio, which is pretty much known for four things
1. Home of General William Tecumseh Sherman
2. 10 years ago some guy got arrested for having a sample of bubonic plague in his house (which he had ordered through the mail somehow).
3. My high school's baseball team hired a couple of strippers while staying at a hotel during tournaments. The coach was fired and a lot of the players were kicked off the team. The story even made Howard Stern.
4. The town sheriff, Gary Demastery, was cought laundering about $100,000 and put in jail for 5 years.
Ah man, my town needs a better reputation
