Wonder if anyone can help me out.  I am working on a site that needs streaming audio, it is for a church.  Basically they want to people to visit the site, download and/or listen to the sermon that was preached that Sunday.  I know that you can use ASX files to create a stream via IE, but this does not work with other browsers like FireFox, Opera, and Camino.  Does anyone know of any utility that allows streaming audio?  I would love to have a Flash software that allows streaming, but do not know Flash to be able to program a player.  Also, if it is a Flash player, hopefully it is free, and does not require a lot of time to maintain.

Edit:

Here is a link to the test site that I was speaking about

So long as you don't want a live stream why not just post the MP3's for download? I used to use a program called SAM when our clan had it's own radio station but I haven't used it in a bit.

Thanks for the info, but that looks like a lot more then what I was searching for.  The software looks good, but not what will meet the needs that I have.  I just need a simple app, or something like ASX that support cross platform support.

Easy to do with the embed tag in HTML.

Best to offer more than one possibility anyway so here's how to satisfy pretty much everyone that uses your site.  These work on PC and Mac, regardless of browser provided the helper app is installed:

With Quicktime

With Windows Media

Note that older Firefox versions have issues with Windows Media.  Here's the solution for it (basically just a plugin to install then restart FF).

I recommend not using MP3 right now.  Lucent is sueing Microsoft for patent violation even though MS got their license from Fraunhoffer.  Lucent has threatened to sue anyone not paying for MP3 licenses, even regular consumers.  This could be an idle threat but then again it may not be, given their bravado so far I wouldn't doubt it a genuine threat.

Besides, Quicktime is better at MP4 and WM is better at... well WMA.  Best encode the surmon twice, once as wma and once as mp4 for best quality and usuability by each object.

Good luck.

Right now we are just encodeing them as MP3.  I actually hate how we have to do it.  We use SoundTrack Pro so encoding is not really that hard.  I also thought about embeding them, but I was not for sure if I wanted to do that.  Plus embeding them does not fit well into the design, unless I have a pop up window.  Then there is the issue with IE 7 and FF having pop up blockers installed.
