Hello.

I just got my new PC, with an Intel Core 2 Duo X6600 2.4Ghz processor, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Nvidia 8800GTX and 500 watt PSU.

I was using it yesterday, and it was fine. I went to go watch TV/eat etc, then came back roughly an hour and a half later and I found out my screen, mouse and keyboard wasnt working. I looked through the PC window and I found out the processor fan wasnt turning. I turned my PC off, checked if the fan was connected to the motherboard (forgotten what type it is), which it was, then tried again. The PC got power as the case fans were working, and the LEDs were also working, but the processor fan just didnt want to go.

Did I fry my processor or something? Ive got a fan at the front of the case for intake, and a rear one for letting the air out. The PSU has one, and the processor has a fan too. There is also a mesh bit at the side of the case for air to go in, but somehow the fan just doesnt want to go.

Any help please?

This could be bad...
have you got another cpu to test the heatsink fan?

plug another fan(that you know works) into the power spot, if it turns, then the other fan is bad, if not, then the PSU is bad.

You can put 2 cases next to each other, and pull the cord over, they are usually long enough to do that.

But under no circumstances should you let the computer run for long(ie more than 2 minutes) without a processor cooling device

Yeah, check with other computer's/fans/etc. however I hate to tell you that if your processor went an hour and a half without direct cooling you're going to have to buy another one. Sorry

I am no expert but if your processor fan was not working for such a long time then it is dead. A mate of mine had a old computer(was getting a new)and he made the processor fan stop working for a couple of minuts and then it died.

any modern CPU has protection against that: when the temperature reaches a limit it turns itself off, it shouldnt have been damaged at all. But as your PC stayed on.. and the fan wasnt for all that time.. I fear the worst

Test your ram first! I did and it saved me alot of hassle before returning my e6400.  Thank god for honest little mom and pop pc shop's that care about the customer.
