I wouldn't recommend that.  They are reportedly.......aggressive, and you'll be outnumbered.  One woman who tried to leave was stalked by a group of them.

Yeah, those Christians were waging war on everybody 1000 years ago.  Honestly, there is no comparison.  Christianity has matured; Islam has not.

Rolling Stone's Janet Reitman wrote:

They assert that 75 million years ago, an evil galactic warlord named Xenu controlled seventy-six planets in this corner of the galaxy, each of which was severely overpopulated. To solve this problem, Xenu rounded up 13.5 trillion beings and then flew them to Earth, where they were dumped into volcanoes around the globe and vaporized with bombs. This scattered their radioactive souls, or thetans, until they were caught in electronic traps set up around the atmosphere and "implanted" with a number of false ideas -- including the concepts of God, Christ and organized religion. Scientologists later learn that many of these entities attached themselves to human beings, where they remain to this day, creating not just the root of all of our emotional and physical problems but the root of all problems of the modern world.
I read that entire article linked, and Scientology seems like a private, spiritualized version of 1984 (George Orwell's). L. Ron Hubbard identified particular meanings and references to a modified version of the english language, using terms like "tech" to describe theories, methods, and principles formulated by him, "clear" to describe wiping the "reactive mind" -- the assembly of all that which has happened throughout your "radioactive soul's" life, and "engrams*" to describe the scars found in the aforementiond reactive mind. The process they use to perform this "clearing" is what they call "auditing". They suppose that, through the use of a device known as the "electropsychometer" (measures change in small electrical currents throughout the body), they can measure when someone's subconciously lying about the memory banks within their reactive mind.

A quote by a follower of such blind devotion...
"But they'll just dig it up until you go, 'Holy shit, was that what was going on?'" She smiles. "And afterward, you feel so much better."

Anyways, in order to leave the communal membership that is Scientology, you have to resign association and contact with all family and friends who still remain as disciples of such a system. But you can't just leave whenever you see fit, they have to make sure you are ready to leave (through a process called "handling"). Within this stage (on top of putting extreme stress on someone to remain within this society of Scientology) they ensure that you understand everything that is Scientology and that you won't discredit or publicly criticize Scientology. Anyone who goes against their ethics is called a "suppressive" type of person -- a label also attributed to Hitler, by Hubbard. Once you leave though, you are called an "Apostate".

*engram - a physical alteration thought to occur in living neural tissue in response to stimuli, posited as an explanation for memory.

Rolling Stone's Janet Reitman wrote:

The most important, and highly anticipated, of the eight "OT levels" is OT III, also known as the Wall of Fire. It is here that Scientologists are told the secrets of the universe, and, some believe, the creation story behind the entire religion. It is knowledge so dangerous, they are told, any Scientologist learning this material before he is ready could die. When I ask Mike Rinder about this, he casts the warning in less-dire terms, explaining that, before he reached OT III -- he is now OT V -- he was told that looking at the material early was "spiritually not good for you." But Hubbard, who told followers that he discovered these secrets while on a trip to North Africa in 1967, was more dramatic. "Somehow or other I brought it off, and obtained the material and was able to live through it," he wrote. "I am very sure that I was the first one that ever did live through any attempt to attain that material.
Generally, Scientologists -- when questioned about information -- give the reply that "you just wouldn't understand it" or that "you're not ready for it", as if they have some superior ability to conceptualize asinine, inane assumption.

Here's a quote for some funnies...

Rolling Stone's Jane Reitman wrote:

Both of Natalie's parents are Clear, she says. Her grandmother is what's called an "Operating Thetan," or "OT." So is Tom Cruise, who is near the top of Scientology's Bridge, at a level known as OT VII. OTs are Scientology's elite -- enlightened beings who are said to have total "control" over themselves and their environment. OTs can allegedly move inanimate objects with their minds, leave their bodies at will and telepathically communicate with, and control the behavior of, both animals and human beings. At the highest levels, they are allegedly liberated from the physical universe, to the point where they can psychically control what Scientologists call MEST: Matter, Energy, Space and Time.
Basically, even with all of their regimented penalties and authoritarian controlism, L. Ron Hubbard has been quoted as saying "What is true to for you is what you observe to be true." No fucking duh, y'know? Especially when you recant that of truly logical, rational, and reasonable observation in place of purely opinionated , baseless creations of assumption. To say that he did this only for finances could have been true in the beginning, but who the hell knows. In his will, ironically enough on the day before he died, he addressed that his heir be the foundation of Scientology and not his wife and children. Who the hell cares about being rich if you're a brainwashed drone incapable of independent thought?

(P.S. Although, you could suppose such a circumstance that familial ties of Hubbards are the basis for a secret society that funnel profts from Scientology into their own private sector, away from the peddly mess of idea that is Scientology.)

(P.S.S. Oh, and that Thetan crap in my last quote is Scientology's reference to an immortal being spanning ages in the millions. Basically, just someone who is "clear" and free of "engrams" and the issues created by such. There are 8 levels of "Operating Thetan's", and Mr. Cruise is level 7. Watch out, Tom can time travel, throw mountains, and shoot laser beams from his eyes.)

Do you still live in the Middle ages???? What is happening with the Christian religion now that compares to people blowing themselves up to kill civilians IN THE NAME OF THEIR RELIGION.  And that is on topic.  My point was that Scientology is nutty and crazy, but some how more discredited that the real crazy and dangerous religion of ISLAM.

Christians help their Enemies more than Muslims help their Allies. And no I'm not Christian, but have no problem with morals and people helping people.

To each his/her own.  It may or may not agree with others belief system, but as far as I'm concerened....As long as they aren't going "Heavens Gate" or start "Hailing" each other left right and center...I say live and let live.

lol. If you haven't, you really ought to read the more lengthy post of mine in this thread. It gives a summary of some of the core things behind what being a Scientologist is really all about...

I'm surprised no one mentioned the South Park episode on Scientology, Trapped in the Closet.  It's hilarious.

There is a short promotional song before the episode starts.

The leaders, sure.  The rank and file, tho, I feel sorry for.  Most of them want something which society, for whatever reason, can't give them, and they ignore all logic to get it.  I wish we could help them somehow.

Ok, so we all know this is a crazy religion based on the teachings of a science fiction writing who himself claimed that the best way to make money is to start a religion...etc.etc......

but what i want to know is how in the world is anyone attracted to this religion in the first place, or stick with it after they find that out. i mean i can vaguely grasp how a christian stays but that is based on 2000 years of history. not 50 years of vague and stupid storys made by a man who as far as i can tell is a perverted whacko. seriously. WHATTHEFUCK?

How about because they feel safe and comfortable within the religion?  Does anyone have demographics on what sorts of people join scientology?  Methinks lots of old rich people and young poor people.

it's just a scam designed to collect money from suckers

they invite you in for a free depression test.. tell you you're depressed.. then offer you courses in how to become better. throughout they collect money from you. L Ron Hubbard was a "jack of all trades" kind of guy who tried to strike it rich in a lot of different fields. eventually he realized that religions were the best ways to make money, so he created one - he articulated this himself and it is very well documented, so well documented that it's suprising that so many people buy into it.

Nice good on the scientoligy thing, I think I've finally found something that most the BF2S community can agree on not liking.  Yeah what is the scientolgy backing on this? Does anyone know because they have their own cruise ship. So where is all the money coming from?

Also please do stay on topic and don't go Christian/Muslum bashing. Both those religions are kinda mirrors of each other and have similar view points use them as referances just not to start a flam war thanks.

And what if the Scientoligists are right?

Ah, no.  The definition of cult involves a number of criteria, many of which I don't fully understand.  Personally, I think they are a cult, I was merely pointing out some would disagree, and there is some basis for disagreement.  Besides, Christianity is only 2000 years old.  Not that long in the grand scheme of things.

I don't know I see whether or not something is a cult as based more on the number of it's adherents not it's age.

www.xenu.net  <-- if you haven't already seen this then please do and share w/ others.  be sure to check out this section: http://www.xenu.net/archive/scientology_illustrated/

my questions about scientology:

1) how can one believe in a religion created by a very bad science writer?
2) why pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn the truth when you can read it on wikipedia for free?
3) how exactly does this bad science fiction novel get tax-relief through classification as a relgious organization?
4) some people may be into this scam cause they want to get rich, but how fucking retarded is Tom Cruise?  Jon Travolta?

these are rhetorical questions btw...don't bother with giving me answers.
