Any tips on becoming a good singer?

I want to improve my singing skills, because I want to make a band with my friends and hopefully be lead singer. (I also play a little bass). Do any of you have any tips on becoming a better singer without lessons?

Rock i guess. My favorite band is Red Hot Chili Peppers, so i would be inspired by them.

If you play and sing, be sure to practice that. Pick songs you like, learn them on bass and then learn to sing them while playing bass.
Singing is mostly about confidence and charisma.
Learn to sing to a PA, it's different than the shower.
Breathe from your stomach not from your chest.

Money and time.I would join my school chorus, but i hear the chorus teacher is a major dick.

Thanks, that helps. I really have to practice breathing correctly.

singstar, then you'll be perfect. Oh and disney sing-a-long DVDs

But really its all about practice. And sing infront of your friends because its hard to tell yourself if your singing in tune. Or you could record yourself.
