I have assembled a half-way decent PC from spare / used parts:

Shuttle SN41G2 v3 (nForce 2)
AthlonXP 2600+ (O/C'd to 2.2GHz =~ 3200+)
2x1024MB G.Skill DDR400 RAM
eVGA 7800 GS AGP (450 / 1350)
160GB ATA100 Samsung Spinpoint

It has onboard audio (RealTek ALC650), which seems to work ok, but also have a USB audio connector that came with my Sennheiser headset. Was wondering which would be better for BF2 performance-wise. I notice if I pick "Hardware" with the onboard audio I can get some issues with performance, but software works, but doesn't sound quite as "good".

All I really care about is positional audio, and I don't care to dump any more money into this machine for a dedicated sound card. Besides I like the fact that the audio ports are in front and can quickly and easily connect/disconnect my headphones for use with  my other PC if needed.

this should be tech but nvm

it doesnt matter tbh

well i say that it does because if its running through the AC97 (onboard sound) obviously it would make sense that its better

but USB will suffice as its on your headset.
