armin, think of it like this.  Instead of making Battlefield 3 right now, and having it cost 69.99.  They are making a bunch of new content for BF2 and having it cost much less.  I mean, what was different about special forces.  Ok it had 10 new maps, 6 new armies, 10 new weapons, 10 new vehicles.  So what would you rather do.  Wait for them to make another expansion for 40 bucks.  Or buy 4 mini-expansions over the course of a few months for 10 bucks.  It all adds up to the same in the end. These are professional level maps, vehicles and weapons for a measly 10 dollars.  Like everyone says, dont buy it if you dont want to.  I wish other companies would take a page out of EA's book at least on this matter, as I think its a sweet idea.  As was said earlier, it helps keeps the game alive and I'm all for that.
Explain to me why Valve doens't charge for the new CS maps?

Because they help the CS community

Go play CS, then.

Nobody's forcing you to purchase anything else to play the game.  EA/DICE is still providing patches free of charge.  Quit your bitching.

Digital content costs money to create and distribute, choose to pay for new media or don't.  Complaining about this is stupid, the only grounds for complaining is if the media amount to price ratio is bad, which we don't know yet!

I agree with armin, this could be construed as another EA rip off. So we should all sign his petition, make sure EA don't do any booster packs and have to stop doing any further upgrades or patches... this game will then come to a natural death, quickly if armin and his buddies have anything to do with it

Or, those of us that want to continue playing this game *should* be allowed to make up their own minds and not be influenced by some out dated bitterness... Petition indeed, petition for something serious if you're that cut up about it.

@ £5.99 I'm in

@ [FIS]-Thor , I agree. Although shouldn't we be able to make our own hard copies.... that's unless EA have put a copy protection policy on it. I hope they don't

Yeah, the hard copy is the only thing that bothers me.  I'd love have the packaging and that part of my shelf to get even longer with Battlefield boxes, but more importantly I want a disc to pop in when I clean my PC out or reinstall windows if need be and not have to redownload it.

"do u see valve charge for new cs content? ea is the biggest adn richest gamemaker, they are jsut being greedy with the boosterpacks"

No, but valve doesn't release full fledged expansion packs and booster packs, just individual maps that are the work of one person, not a team.

Oh so you expect the developers to just spend months working on new content for you then not charge anything for it? How do you expect them to earn a living if everything is free? obviously you have no idea what your talking about.

They need money to afford to pay the staff to make new content, if nobody buys the booster packs, they wont be able to afford to make any more and that means no more content for us.

And as for the hardcopy, its not an expansion pack, its just some extra maps and weapons, like a patch basically. You wouldn’t expect a patch on hardcopy would you?

And most of the time they don’t even make these maps, they are sent in, checked, then released via steam if they are good. Half the official maps for HL2DM were made by the public.

Can't you just appreciate expansion packs like a normal person?  It's not supposed to even affect regular BF2 gameplay, no new unlocks from it, the patch v1.2 has the new unlocks.  Just a couple of new maps, they're not forcing you to buy it like they did with SF.  If you don't like it, play something else.  Your stupid petition won't even work at all.

Your petition is pointless, you cannot get mad at them for trying to make more money off a game that is incredibly popular. I didnt buy special forces and will probably not buy this euro-pack but it doesnt mean i cant still enjoy bf2. I'm just happy we dont have to pay for online use by the hour like wow, THAT is something the gaming community should be pissed about.

i think a petition asking them to put it out on hardcopy would be a good idea for all of us who dont want to leave the computer on all night to download something to get up in the morning and find out a error caused the download to stop at 97% and plus not everyone has a Credit card that would be a good idea but something about stopping them expanding the lifetime of BF2 adding a few bit to it is stupid mate or are you one of those guys who starts a kick vote just cause someone killed you?

Um, this is not a ripoff. It is a way for EA to continue to make this game profitable. I have paid for the current game and it is amazing and I am glad I spent my money. EA is adding completely new content to this game and I think it is fair to pay for it. These are all extras, completely unnecessary but entirely entertaining extras that are worth paying for.

All those EA run servers for the game take money to run, as does any server.

You probably won't be able to burn the downloaded booster packs to CD.  That sucks because I and many other people I know want some kind of hard copy back up.  Other than that I have no problem for a $10.00 download for more maps and stuff.  If you get 3 or 4 maps, a couple of weapon unlocks and the like for every booster pack, then after 3 of them you got an expansion pack.  The only difference is you got over 3 downloads vs 1 trip to the store.  If you don't like the booster pack concept, fine, don't buy and download them.  I for one will be.  Mostly, because I hope the new ones don't have the Video Lag problem I experience in Special Forces.

developers relsease free material all the time, don't sit here pretending that game makers HAVE to charge you for new maps to survive. they can still make profit by driving sales of the original game with their new content.

obviously that's not enough profit for EA, so they keep coming out with new things for us to buy. i don't have a problem with additional content for a small price, that's better paying for a full priced 'sequal' with the same things in it.

but the problem is BF2 was so severely lacking in features that it feels like they left a lot of things out on purpose to MAKE us buy the expansions, which doesn't sit well with me. if BF2 had been a full featured game with multiple game modes and more maps, i wouldn't mind expansions at all. but when they split the original game into four installments for us to buy over and over again, i don't want to support that nonsense at all.
