BF2S Forums Master/First Sergeant

I know that you have to get all weapon basic awards to make first sergeant. But say if you made master sergeant but only needed say pistol combat badge, and got it while you were a master sergeant, would you then rank up to a first sergeant as soon as you got it?

Also, if you go from gunnery sergeant to first sergeant, does it count as 2 'rank ups'?
