I saw some on Newegg and I was wondering if there is anything beneficial about having one at this time.  Not that it would make a difference to me, I don't have any SATA slots on my mobo.  By ROM, I mean a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive for SATA.  Here is an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6827106039

less cable clutter. the IDE cables are way too big for efficient cable routing
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

That's what I mean, is there any benefit to having a disk drive that runs that fast yet?  Like faster loading or less choppiness maybe?

While the SATA protocol is faster, ATAPI drives simply aren't fast enough to saturate the bandwidth of even IDE.  As such, there is no speed benefit for drives as slow as ATAPI drives.

If you do need to buy a drive, the best reason to get a SATA drive is that the IDE interface is going away.  Many motherboards currently have only 1 IDE interface, and even that is being supplied by a third party controller chip the mobo maker added.
