So i would like to upgrade my memory!
-Right now i have 1Gb running dual channel (DDR SDRAM 400).
I want to upgrade to 2Gb by adding another 2x512Mb.(Dual channel).

I have heard people say that i should just purchase 2x1Gb sticks and to replace my old ones I'm already using, but this is alittle expensive.

So my question is will my system actually run worse if i buy another 2x512Mb, or will the new sticks just run at the same speed as my old sticks.

system specs:
-AMD Athlon 64 3500+
-2.20 Ghz, 2000 Mhz FSB
-1024 Gb memory
-Ati x550 256 Mb (soon replacing just purchased new 500 watt PSU)

Running 4 sticks will cause a drop in performance, with the speed being dropped to 333MHz and command rate to 2T. If you have an E Revision core(check with CPU-Z) it'll only drop the command rate.

No, its ok. I had .5 gig of ram then i added 2x512 so i had 4 stick running (2x512 and 2x256) and it runs SOOOO much ebtter. Much faster, 0 drop in speed. Dont worry as long as they are compatible.

As long as the 2x 512 MB sticks are DDR400 like the RAM you already have, you shouldn't have a problem.

I had a similar set-up. 2x512 and 2x256. I recently got 2 more 512 sticks for a total of 4x512. Seems to run better now. Not much of a difference but hey, it's sounds a lot cooler to have 2 gigs
