Best tip for Karkand? GO for any flag but Hotel. And never play IO. There you go. Enjoy.

Karkand is a good map. You will find a lot of bitter responses form people who have played the game quite a bit. Probably because of all of the seedy happenings there.

Throw nades, claywhore like a loser and generally do anything but cap flags.

Avoid it.

Why Mashtuur is better than karkand.

Ill release the low down, bud, from my perspective...always a Clan Commander perspective, what I think of Karkand through experience:

TIP 1
3 choices... 16 size, 32, or 64. I usually go with 64 size ALTHOUGH I prefer it to only hold 32 players. This helps those of us who have slow loading PCs, such as me, and we can stay in the game longer. Lag isnt so bad either when playing with 32 players.

TIP 2
Its a high paced map with plenty of places to use for cover....IF YOUR SMART. Even better... a squad leader can infiltrate ANY control point if he allows his team to spawn on him in key locations where ONLY the squad leader can choose to go. But you have to play smart...both as an individual and a squad leader. So always try to use cover and take advantage of the various buildings around you.

TIP 3
Take the high ground. Its alot easier to kill players that are below you. It doesn't matter what your class is...take a route or path that puts you above others in height. This is true with mostly all maps.

TIP 4
Choke Points. This is probably the most important in Karkand. If you grab a spot and wait it out for at least a 30 second duration... you can rack up several kills, slow the enemy, ensure a win for your team, and grab a top spot on the leaderboard at end game. I see it everyday how players are in such a hurry to cover ground... sometimes...its just smart to hold your ground. Try it...you will see.

TIP 5
Go Around! I have to stress this very much. In Karkand...folks fight in the beginning on the front line non stop until its too late to have an impact and win the game... especially if your on the US side. Its imperative to push behind enemy lines and start gutting the enemy control points. Once you do it...the rest of your team will start to follow and spawn on a CP you took or maybe even start joining your squad...because they see that your playing smart. Take the time and effort to push around control points instead of direct and costly front line battles. Wins are good in BF2 .

FINAL TIP
Awareness. Learn to watch your HUD and know what the hell is going on around you... if you dont... you will walk into a hot zone that you were not ready for. In a matter of seconds... you and your entire squad will suffer an Azz beating by potentially the entire enemy team. Its fun to hold them, if you can, but a 3 second pummeling of your full squad leaves everyone dismayed and wondering why the hell your leading. I have held 2 full squads in a public server with my clan and eventually pushed the enemy back... but theres alot of communicating we do and training we put into place....to succeed.

Just stay smart and use your brain... it pays in spades.

First tip: Dont listen to the dumbasses telling you to play another map.
Second tip: If your a medic (which you damn well should me) Revive teamates. The last several times Ive been on karkand I havent been revived ONCE and that is piss annoying.
Third Tip: Work with your team and DONT ever be sniper. Being sniper on karkand is like trying to knife a J-10.
Fourth Tip: Learn. Watch "good" players. Not the people with the highest scores but the people who are trying to organize a squad and play as a team.

1. Be support.
2. Throw grenades everywhere.
3. Resuply yourself.
4. Repeat.

Or.

1. Be sniper
2. Run around and toss claymores everywhere even if you get killed in the process.

Or.

1. Be medic.
2. Run around and spam med packs everywhere.
3. Run around and zap people back to life.

Thats it. Thats the ultimate guide.

my tips are:
-on getting lots of team points- is to medic whore beyond all whoring, dont' even pull out your gun for the entire round; always have the shockpads out, bunny hop and run and revive all dead soldiers even in the most ridculus situations ie. in IO karkand with 10 enemies around you. i did this several times and got gold stars constantly but obviously death K/D.
-for kills? grap a m16 or ak101 and set it on semi and pop em at long range.
-to avoid the claymores in karkand. NEVER walk directly in front of the side alleyways of the mec in the beginning of the round. claymores are usually set there to protect them (MEC) from USMC flankers.
-STOP/keep THE TICket bleed. its a big factor in karkand.
- turn down your graphics to see snipers/claymores better.
-  find a USMC squad that is willing to go cap a flag in karkand unlike many who love to all rush into CLaymore alley and nade county (Hotel).
- now this contradict my tip above but...go shotgun in the alley ways ...because who dares wins. Well I say go shotgun because a handfull of your enemies will be unarmoured and both shotguns will cut them medics down.

1. Learn all the spawn points
2. Stay under the uav
3. Place c4 on every spawn point you pass, and wait for enemies to spawn
4. Blow up the enemy as they spawn, then repeat step 3
5. Teamkill the support knob who wont give you ammo
6. pick up his kit and trow some ammo bags, then pick up your kit again
7. Go back to step 3

Well.... in the end every tip here is valid; nade spamming, claywhoring and reviving like crazy will all get you points. HOWEVER, if you want to really enjoy it, and not become the number 1 hate figure of your favourite server, don't do these things. In fact, the people that whore are your TARGETS:

1) Nade spammers- Will all group together, in very predictable positions. One example is the low roof to the east of the hotel flag. There will almost always be a squad of USMC there nading the hell out of the spawn point. Answer? Spawn at square, keep in the shadows, sneaking up behind them. One nade on that roof will most likely wipe them out. Points for you, the possiblity of actually spawning and surviving for your team, and a bit of karma for the nade spammers.

2) Claywhores- If they know you see them, they will run at you and try and drop Claymores at your feet. So simply fire your nice Ak/m16 in their face while backing away. Then, importantly, wait back for one of your team to run along blindly in to the Claymore. = A kill and a revive, easy.

3) Paddle Pirates- Easy practice for you and your assault rifle. If they bunny hop (as they will) aim for the biggest and easiest hit area, the chest. As they don't have their gun out, it doesn't matter how many bullet you take, as long as you kill them.

Each of these will net you a load of points.

Also, follow thse simple rules...

- Stay OUT of the most densely populated areas, such as directly next to Hotel spawn points. If you stand in these areas, you will get naded within milliseconds. All you need to do is stand to one side, wait for enemies to run in to these areas, come up behind them and nail them. Try and use paddles, makes it more fun. This may sound simple but if you think about Karkand's layout you will see how easy it is to sneak behind people, especially if they are busy with their nades.

- AIM FOR THE HEAD. I can't stress this enough... I never used to do this, but trust me, on karkand IT WORKS. You may think your bullet will just go flying past their ears, but they just won't. Karkand is so tightly packed that most enemies will be within metres of you. If you practice, aiming at the head is deadly.

-Don't get pissed off. This is one that i actually find hard to follow... every few games you will start terribly, getting killed instantly by a grenade, or a spawn raper's LMG. Just forget it and play on.

Hope this helps.

Use those tree planters as cover whenever they are near. Also use the burnt out cars, random pallets, walls, boxes, and dumpsters as cover. Just stand right behind them facing the enemy and take quick shots at their visible head. Figure out when the enemy is about to come into view and begin firing before that moment (ie, advance and retreat quickly in close quarters combat against many enemies to draw them into view). Sprint perpendicular to the enemies fire whenever possible, never remain motionless when fired upon unless you are landing kill shots. Try to maintain at least 50% sprint for those moments when youre under fire. Sprinting really fucks up the hit boxes. Turn up your mouse sensitivity so its easy to snap from running perpendicular to aiming directly at heads. always play medic and keep your teamates up (afterall teamates are pretty useful cover/bait).

-------------------------
The Grenade Trick
-------------------------

Did you know a grenade can go off literally touching your body in BF2 and you can survive? The trick is putting your head's hitbox in a wall or solid object. It only works while prone. With your head in the wall, the grenade doesnt do its triple damage to your head, and you get away with half of your life. If you are a medic and have three med packs at your feet, then you can literally take three consecutive nades to the body and still be alive. Since you can't see anything while doing this, it only works when you have some amount of cover and it requires that you play intelligently/have UAV (knowing when youre going to be attacked etc). It is excellent for when 2-3 people capture a flag together, because one person can be hiding on the flag staying alive while the others keep the coast clear of any potential gunners. Most top CAL teams use this trick when capturing flags and when camping (like in the fountain at karkand square 16 player size or out in front of mashtuur's mosque, if u hear a grenade coming, just go prone face first against the little wall in the fountain by the flag and youre good. throw down more health then pop up the next second and gun the nadewhore down, repeat).

Enjoy!

Also use the burnt out cars...
I'd like to emphasize the fact to use burnt out cars as opposed to burning cars. That was probably one of my nubliest moments when I jumped on top of a burning car, thinking I was impervious to fire.

Anyway, as for tips.
When the U.S. has capped out the left side of the 64 player map (Hotel, Square, Suburb, Train Accident) and the MEC forms its little sniping line on the right side of the map, do one of two things:
  • Spawn as a sniper, jump in a boxcar and counter-snipe
  • (Assuming you're a squad leader) Spawn at Square to avoid attention, then run towards the river, as far away from the front lines as possible. Swim across the water as far south as possible, and sneak in from the back. Make sure you have a sniper covering you while you swim. Then have your squad spawn on you and take the back bases.

Assuming you aren't playing against the clan that owns the server, this usually allows you to cap out the MEC, or at least give you the advantage.

Don't listen to this one. Sniper in Kark is alot of fun and usually ends up with you in the top 5 and a good KDR for that round. And for the record this is NOT done by running in the action, setting claymores, dieing, repeating. Do it by staying almost out of the draw distance and shooting heads, not bodies.
