But in that round I must have hit 4-5 guys in the head straight away and they didn't die..only for someone to kill him and I get "Kill Assist" or whatever it is. I hit 6 guys 3-4 times in torso (they were running) and still dont die.
As others have correctly pointed out, if you hit them in the head, they would have died.  If you get 'kill assist' that means that you hit them somewhere and did damage, but didn't kill them.  They are not hackers, you have just not 'mastered' the weapon.  I have gotten endless kill assists with the M95, helping out my team mates in the process (heck who wouldnt' want to face a guy with only 2 bars of health).  Some guys have told me that there is a faint red x when you hit somebody, and have posted screenshots to document it, but I have never seen this in my game.  It would be very helpful when sniping at long distance to judge bullet drop if I would get the red X for a hit, instead of the guy running off and you wonder if you hit at all.  I can tell you that sniping is hard, but (perhaps due to the difficulty) is immensley rewarding when you do get a head shot and the guy drops.

If u wanna find out if u hit the guy, fire the m95 and change to pistol. u will see a small x in the middle of the pistol crosshair.

or you can hold the fire button and keep looking through your scope to see if you hit him

Just to say my bit...

I have been bitching over the same thing... more on ballance of various weapons...

However, the points being made are starting to make sense. This is not a real life game. This is a well designed game with various options, benefits and overall balance of the weapons. If the .50 is not a 1 shot kill ... get over it. Use it or loose it... I have been sniping a lot .. 1 shot kills (very few btw) or not.. It is still fun to play. Learn to snipe correctly, choose your locations carefuilly .... run if you are detected or wounded by that other sniper ... etc... Hell ..... have FUN!!! The other kits have also good and bad points.

If I can get only a decent answer for close combat. The rifle is out, Claymores are out, Pistol .. mmm .....got to learn that... any ideas?

Edit

I have a better idea... Just increase the zoom a little. I have played a mod where the zoom  was increased and that made the sniper rifles a lot better. Come-on Dice ... how about it?

I'd just like to go ahead and confirm a bug.

http://files.filefront.com/Unfair_1wmv/ … einfo.html

Notice how the puff of smoke obscures his head and how his head recoils a ton at the same time. I also shot him with 3 pistol shots, so he would have been dead even if I had hit his shoulder or something.

It seems to happen a TON some rounds, then other times it's fine.

Edit: Oh, a 1-body-shot kill rifle would be terribly overpowered. Where's the fun in that? It's not like snipers are underpowered now.

So I close by saying, fuck the real world. I have fun when I get a skilled headshot. A guy at full health dies with one shot because I used my skill to plant it there. I don't care if the real M95 is a one hit kill weapon, or that the guy I hit in the torso carries on running. It'd be an annoyance to me in game when I'm trying to have fun, that I limp everytime someone shoots me in the leg, or I bend over and cough blood if I'm shot. That's real world too, but would take away the fun of something that is a game.
AMEN.

...also, i recently found my 'flow' with the sniper rifle, and am really enjoying it atm, but even having said that i hope that they don't make the snipers more accurate. maybe it's just the servers i'm playing on, but every second person goes sniper. the teams are usually fifteen snipers, fifteen spec ops, and two engineers whoring it up in armour. i imagine a game where sniper rifles are more n00b friendly would be one where you would die every two seconds from a sniper. seriously, fuck that. Sniping is hard - as it fucking should be. If they do change the accuracy and every second sniper has 40 kills at the end of every round, i'll be very fucking pround of myself that I got both my sniping vet badges before the 'accuracy' patch.

Don't use the damned m95. it's shit. Don't use it!!!!. It's no kind of upgrade. It's less accurate than the m24. It just has a louder audio file to make it seem cooler and a better graphic. I'll even use the standard chinese/MEC rifles instead of the m95. M95's only advantage is being able to shoot through chopper windows and the only time this really even matters is when you can get a head shot (which is harder to do since it's not as accurate as the m24) - the only times chopper headshots make themselves available is when you camp outside the helipad and get em before they take off or they're capping a flag.... m95's only value is as a single shot alternative to the standard chinese/MEC rifles. As I said though I still prefer the standard rifles. the chinese/MEC rifles are great medium range weapons and can own when used at the front line to pick off advancing soldiers while your squadmates or team mates handle the close stuff.
If you're gonna sit and hide out from a distance the m24 is really the only way to go. when I have the m24 and some loser with the m95 is tryin to snipe me from on some crane or rooftop i get excited because I've just been given a free kill. The m95 even has a thicker crosshair so it's harder to aim. My guess is that even though you were sighted up the bullets just MISSED, or your connection was slightly laggy or spiking so that you got the graphic of your bullet grazing clothes but no actual shot. I've spent 112 hours as a sniper and 73 with a rifle and i've never experienced anything that wasn't either the fault of a poor connection to the server or my own inability to lead my shots properly.

abandon the m95. OH, but just so you know (i don't know how many are aware of it) but other than shooting through the glass windows of jeeps and helicopters it can also shoot through the armor plated hatch doors that protect the backs of gunners on top of jeeps and tanks.

Why does a simple post about sniping have to turn into "BUT TEH 50 CAL BULLET IS FUCKING GIGANTIC THERES NO WAY SOMEONE COULD SURVIVE THAT IN RL LOL?!"  Jesus christ people, this kid is just a crap shot.  Even if he isn't, then big woop - he missed a few people.  Can we seriously stop fucking trying to bring in the GOD DAMN REAL WORLD INTO A GOD DAMN VIDEO GAME?  It's so annoying.  Go read the "Read this before you complain" post and youll know what I'm talking about.

I hate snipers.
Agreed here tbh, there are already far too many weapons ingame that can kill a player from way off.  A 1s-1k sniper rifle would only add to the irritation.  Okay so a .50 cal round would blow someone clean in half in real life, but this is only a game.  In real life, bunnyhopping with a grenade launcher doesn't work either..

I dunno... I have used every available sniperrifle in that game. I prefer the bolt action much over the semi automatics. True, you can kill with the latter, but it takes at least two shots under ideal circumstances. With the M24 and the M95 it takes two shots under standard circumstances. Personally, I have not found any indicators, that confirm bullet drop for me. What I found out is, that the tips to first let the rifle settle is the way to go. Search a good covered spot, go prone to reduce you profile, look for targets.... at one point, the target will go stationary... count slowly to 3 and then pull the trigger.... ok... that method takes a great deal of patience, but you even will be able to do 1-shot kills. The most difficult shots is to shoot someone who is running.

Do you guys realize that theey tried to make it like real life that.   Uhmm have you ever heard of leading the target.  If you do it just right and it doesn't take a genuis to do it.  You will hit a guy in the head and take him down in one shot with either the M24 or M95.  The others take a couple of hits but most of them if you do it just right you can take them out in one shot.  I have take a couple of guys out with the SVD in one shot to the head.  The Type98 I really don't care for so I use the M95 when I play on the Chinese team.

I know, what deflection shooting is... however it is more difficult since noone knows, what muzzle speed the BF2 weapons have and what increments the scope lines are... would be much easier if one would know

Just to reiterate what many people have said.....It's all about balance.  A one shot kill rifle would throw off class balance.  It would also take a bit of the skill out of sniping.  As a guy who plays sniper somewhat frequently, I wouldn't want a one shot kill rifle.  I can kill other snipers with one shot anyways and I tend to finish moving targets off with either the ppistol or the rifle after hitting them with the first shot.

In a final note, you would most likely die after being hit squarely in the center of the torso with a pistol round if you were without body armor.  Should they make every gun a one shot kill in the torso?  BF2 wolud become America's Army.

It's a yellow 'X' and it shows up with all other weapons too. To see it, just hold the mouse button when you fire. It will keep the scope zoomed and if you keep your eyes on the center of the crosshair you'll see it. When you don't hold the scope zooms out and the animation hides the X.

Tell me about it.... I used to play Joint Operations.... Sniping there was overkill... Ok, you had to adjust the scope for range but for that you had  nifty rangefinder-binoculars and the rest of done via the crosshair... but I can tell you... it is pretty nasty being killed by one shot (no matter, where it hits you) by someone some 500-700 meters away... I think the maximum range I killed someone was 950 Meter with a barely visible target.

As much as people might complain about the deviation cones of BF2 weapons, it definitely makes the game more balanced. Ever playes Joint Operations? Try it... the LMG's there are nearly as precise as the sniper rifles... you will die more than you life...

And regards to the patches.... at least Dice/EA does try to improve the stability of the game and at least listen to the game community to some extent. Novalogic did patches that added useless or not even wanted features to the game but the bugs that where there from day 1 still remained (latest issue, before giving up being a beta-tester and playing the game was a kill-cam that showed the dead exactly where the killer was)

In my company we do have a small clan that played Joint Ops, CS:Source and then BF2 (not anymore because of different work schedules now).... and I was somewhat the last who joined the BF2 Bandwagon although I was very sceptical after playing the demo.... But I started to like it and love  playing it after work

This gun ---->M24<---- is the best sniper rifle and I feel the SVD and the type 88 are more efficent than the M95.   If u want to kill the person everytime then take the M24 and put the crosshairs on their head, fire, and they will die, but the M95 i have found is not like this, if you put the crosshairs on their head they may die.  They may just run away because they only have 2 blocks of health left.  Atleast if the SVD does not hit ur target in the head u can quickly end his life by shooting a second or third time without them running or getting away.  The only sniper rifle that needs acc adjustment is the m95 because it will miss(their head, not necissarily the rest of their body) frequently, but it will certainly hit ur enemy in the shoulder and he will be near death.  I get pissed when i pick up a USMC or British sniper kit and it's and M95, and i immediatley throw that shit back on the ground.   Another advantage to the autosnipers is i can kill multiple enemies fast(meaning large groups of enemy) not just one, i can kill many enemies with the m24 also, but the m95 will end up injuring alot of them and not killing them.  I am not bad with the sniper either i have used the m95 enough to know the m24 is way better plus the new update is adjusting the sniper rifles acc(and they should only adjust the m95, but they will prob adjust them all) so it isn't a myth.

1 shot rifle would ruin the game:
snipers would start to spawnrape from so far that no-one could sneak behind him, and if he sees you, you'd be toast

noobs use sniper rifles on CS:S in BF2 it takes skill - I want it to stay that way.

If the snipers are so bad how come I can get first place in rounds with them no probs.

Thirdly, like someone else mentioned, if BF2 was about realism then all the assault rifles would be one hit kill as well, even the pistols and sub machine guns would only require 2 or 3 hits
