Recently i have been noticing lag when i have been playing, I am used to playing on Medium terrian, Texture and effects with Geo on high with everything else low or off.

I could play these settings for vanilla and sf without lag until a few days ago. As far as i can see there are no viruses and i havent installed anything differant in regards to drivers or programs.

My specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
7600gt xfx oc @ 590 and 800.
2gb pc3200 corsair ram
XP sp2

Now im being forced to run low besides geo on high with less than 50 frames can anyone suggest anyway to boost this back up to normal. I am sick of this and am starting to think format wise which i really cant be bothered to do right now with h/w and shit

+1 for people who help.

1.) Delete everthing in the C:\..\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache folder.
2.) Defrag your system drive.
3.) Enter BF and load a map, with the shaders optimizing again.

No guarantee that it'll work, but it at least made things a little better for me.

I think he meant 800 x 2.

PS: Overheating just would result in weird objects appearing, not slowing down. From my experience.

That would make sence, but I remember when I overclocked it 1.6ghz (800x2) That I actually reduced by FPS. I would try just to downclock it.

Those are the stock oc by xfx, cool bits will not let me clock it more than that.

*EDIT* after clearing the cache and defragging my fps is now up to 30 on high which is still pretty low considering what my mate gets (70) with practically the same setup.

From my experience overheating does slow down fps. You need to re-apply some thermal paste if you lifted the heat sync off the processor, or you may need to clean you heat sync. DL Everest home edition and look at your temperatures.

How many drives and how much drive space do you have left, also do you have restore turned on in xp.

Fragmentation can be a possibly, although it is unlikely such a drop would come from that.

Run dxdiag, save all information and post it so the group can see it.

59 is probably your proc temperature (if so this is borderline), try finding what you card temperature is also.

That was my card temp i used cool bits to check throughout the game and when it ended and the average was 59  degrees c.

I have one drive its 88% empty and at the time i didnt have restore turned on.

Check you cpu performance during gameplay. Bring up your task manager and click on the performance tab. Play for a bit and go back and look at the graph. Also do the same thing with your temps. I suggest using a program called speedfan. Click on the charts tab of speedfan and it will chart a graph with the history of your temps under load.

Further I suggest you create a profile for the game in Nvidia driver tool. 7600GT, 7800GT series cards tend to get shitty fps with BF-series latley.

He probably means 800 before DDR applied - 1.6Ghz effective clock.

100.

70 is good enough though. I find anything much below that puts you at a disadvantage in game.
