I have a 775Dual Vsta motherboard (that sports both AGP and PCIe)

i wanna upgrade my 7800gs agp to a 8800gts 320mb, obviously pcie, but i have read that it wont work for some reason

Can anyone tell me if this will or will not work, and if not, can someone spec me a motherboard to go with it, to keep my (total) buget under £250 (thats including the card and motherboard)

thanks

The AsRock DUAL mobos have both PCI-e and AGP-slots. (got a DUAL Sata s939 myself)

Considering that you are taking the AGP card out and putting a PCI-e in, I see no reason for the PCI-e to fail. It should work properly after you have uninstalled the old drivers, taken the old card out, put the new cardin  and installed new drivers for the new card. You know, doing it by the book.
I need around tree fiddy.

He wants to upgrade his card form a 7800 AGP to a 8800 PCI-E not running both cards in SLI!

Why shouldnt it work?!

Should be fine.

I'll say no as the board is 4x pcie and the 8800 series require 16x pcie.

Well, havent checked the board. But if it only has 4xPCI-E forgett about the 8800...

Wont it run but just be a little bit slower than if it were in a x16 slot?

Im looking to get an Abit IL9 Pro mobo now anyway, but im not sure how good they are

You would think it would just go slower but from I have read the 8800 does not like less than 16x pcie so it does not work. Not worth the risk unless you ask nvidia tech support or asrock tech support.

IL9 looks OK but not had any experience with it personally.

Okay i decided im going to get an EVGA 8800GTS and a Gigabyte S3 motherboard.  Problem is i have IDE Hard drives and DVD drive (one of each) and the motherboard only has one IDE socket on it.. so, my question now is, would i be able to have the cd drive as a master and the hard drive as a slave on the same ide cable, or the other way around...would that work at all?!

I havnt bought it yet, i want to check this before i do buy it

I could get the S3 with one IDE slot, and get a convertor, but id rather not if i dont have to

The Asus P5VD2-MX has PCI-E, 775 and 2 IDE slots and I think its cheaper too.

1 IDE socket supports 1 x master 1 x slave
