the PS3 is way, way, way too expensive.
In the UK it is expected to cost £549 (approx $1000?)
I expect that many people would be put off with this high price- including me!
I think there are 2 ways at looking at this. (ignore all the costs.. they are all bollocks)
unit costs say.... £100 to produce, and is sold at £150, so making £50 profit on each console, but R&D, etc etc cost say £5000000, they therefore need to sell 100000 Ps3's to break even.
However, unit costs £100, they are selling it at £500, so making £400 profit, R&D stays at £5000000, but now they only need to sell 12500 PS3s to break even
Does this mean that the PS3 does not expect it to sell well, so want a quick return?
-> selling the PS3 at a higher price means less people will buy it, but they will break even quicker
-> selling it at a lower price means that more people buy it, but they need to sell more copies to break even.
The specs of the PS3 are amazing, however it is the software that is really letting the PS3 down at the moment. The menus look complicated, it is too advanced, nothing seems to be automatic anymore.
On the PS3 you can play games, you can listen to music, however because of the software restrictions, you cannot do both at the same time.... i mean WTF.... how stupid is that.
Maybe they will fix this in a software update/ fix/ patch whatever, but Playstation, a company that used to be top in the game consoles, now seem to be slipping fast.
I read this somewhere, and i totally agree, the Xbox360 is a new console, far, far superior to the old Xbox, the PS3 however, is just an upgrade to the PS2, it does not currently compete in anyway to the Xbox360.
I have been an avid PS fan since the first ever PS came out, but now Microsoft has taken over, and even the Nintento Wii appears to be more anticipated that the PS3, which is out of reach for most people. I will not be getting the PS3.
