No shit.  On the other hand, I want to get a Wii or a 360.  I like the 360 graphics and online play, but the Wii is more family-friendly and more intuitive.  Read that as awesomely cool.  I just want to know what the Wii resolution is.

Failure? So Nintendo dont fail because they craped out so much only 3% of stores have any? If only 3% of stores has PS3's it would just be an article about how crap Sony was (like it was with the PS2)

the PS3 is way, way, way too expensive.

In the UK it is expected to cost £549 (approx $1000?)

I expect that many people would be put off with this high price- including me!

I think there are 2 ways at looking at this. (ignore all the costs.. they are all bollocks)

unit costs say.... £100 to produce, and is sold at £150, so making £50 profit on each console, but R&D, etc etc cost say £5000000, they therefore need to sell 100000 Ps3's to break even.

However, unit costs £100, they are selling it at £500, so making £400 profit, R&D stays at £5000000, but now they only need to sell 12500 PS3s to break even

Does this mean that the PS3 does not expect it to sell well, so want a quick return?

-> selling the PS3 at a higher price means less people will buy it, but they will break even quicker
-> selling it at a lower price means that more people buy it, but they need to sell more copies to break even.

The specs of the PS3 are amazing, however it is the software that is really letting the PS3 down at the moment. The menus look complicated, it is too advanced, nothing seems to be automatic anymore.

On the PS3 you can play games, you can listen to music, however because of the software restrictions, you cannot do both at the same time.... i mean WTF.... how stupid is that.

Maybe they will fix this in a software update/ fix/ patch whatever, but Playstation, a company that used to be top in the game consoles, now seem to be slipping fast.

I read this somewhere, and i totally agree, the Xbox360 is a new console, far, far superior to the old Xbox, the PS3 however, is just an upgrade to the PS2, it does not currently compete in anyway to the Xbox360.

I have been an avid PS fan since the first ever PS came out, but now Microsoft has taken over, and even the Nintento Wii appears to be more anticipated that the PS3, which is out of reach for most people. I will not be getting the PS3.

sigh.

hopefully when more games come out the ps3 will see better sales. i just don't want it to go under (which i really don't see happening) because this console has tons of potential.

Wasnt the ps2 though like £400 in the UK on release, when they where flying the things in from Japan 12 units at a time lol.  You would expect a price increase but like you said £500 here is a bit excessive.

For the money the ps3 is well worth it i mean look online and sum up every ability the ps3 with every individual part you find that the ps3 can do. I mean it can read i think 10 different types of cd/dvd

The PS3's are losing about $200 per units made. Because the damn Blu-Ray drives are so fraking expensive! If it weren't for that, it would a hell-ofa-lot cheaper.

I'd get the PS3... wait no I wouldn't. Gran Turismo 4 was the only reason I got a PS2, and GT5 would be the only reason to spend more than what an 8800 is worth on a PS3. Fuck that... Polyphony plz release on PC.

I might be getting a PS3 for various reasons.

Yes, it sucks now, but there are games coming out for it that, for lack of words, rule.

Holy crap revive? The games out just don't warrant it still, even if you're prepared to spend as much on just the console as a 360 or Wii with another 5 games. Either one of those has a much better game selection right now.
