Whatever it was, that would make for a bad day if you flew into it. Shit, I almost hit a big ass bird flying today. That was enough to make me wanna pee myself.

How thick is the glass in most of the Cockpit windows..

In other words, how big of a bird would you have to hit to be fucked.

Well, I was flying a MD-500 helicopter "little bird" for those who don't know what it is. They are only plexiglass. Even a small bird can make it through if you are going fast enough. Large airliners have much thicker glass that must withstand large birds and hail, but you would be suprised what it will do when you hit something like that haulin ass. Birds bring down planes more than you would think.

That is why if you look at a modern plane landing, you see the some lights flashing if you look at it from the front.  That supposedly gets the birds attention the get out of the way.

Yeah, we don't have anything like that. Gotta be quick so you don't end up with a face full of feathers and bird goo.

it's 3/4 inch bullet proof glass, so a frozen chicken can make it through at about 300 mph, but you also have to remember that you are flying at about 750mph in the other direction, however you also have to remeber that birds don't fly at about 60,000 ft

yes, that is the most dangerous time. however, the tower does issue warnings based on pilots communications as to the bird strike threat.

That second one is a good one. That guy probably had to pull the seat cushion out of his ass when he landed.
