I was just playing 2142, and well, I wasn't impressed with my performance. I know another gig of RAM would help me, but I am not in the position to get another atm.

Is there a way to assign all processes except 2142 to core 1, and assign 2142 to core 0/2?

The reason i ask is that I have heard that this may help performance, particularly in the titan as 2142 is not designed for dual cores.

thanks

Yes.  Go to task manager, right click on program and select "go to process"
Then right click on process and click "set affinity"
Set affinity
Done.

It will take a while setting all other processes to the other core, though.

Isn't it permanent?  I set my antivirus to one core and it hasn't changed.

Try this:

First, download this:
http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/pr … ess203.zip

Extract it's contents (Process.exe) to your system root folder (C:\Windows\system32\).

Now, open Notepad, and place this inside:

Code:

@echo off
"YOUR GAME INSTALLATION DIRECTORY" -applaunch 240
process -a bf2.exe 01
Replace "YOUR GAME INSTALLATION DIRECTORY" with ... your game installation directory.

Save the notepad file as something like "bf2.bat", then double-click it to start the game.

I have no idea if this works. I don't have dual-core so I can't test it.

Note: I didn't make this, and I don't know who did (I found it a long time ago).

It's worth a try.

the link didnt work in any case, i think it is a RAM issue. I will just have to get another gig to bring me up to 2 - it probably should have been done long ago. thanks for all the help

So if you Set Affinity, it moves that process just to one core? Neat. Don't think I'll use that, but that's pretty cool.
Won't it 'clog' up the core though? Like one core would be really slow, and the other one quite fast? Unless you can remove it from the one core.

Ya, Don't the cores share some Applications, so if you moved it to one core, then you would have to move everything else to the other, not just setting BF2142 to core two..

you'd have to go threw the whole list, and Check off Core one for everything else.

It doesn't really work that way.

It doesn't really balance between the cores. Everything defaults to core 0 until core 0 is "full", and then new apps get switched to core 1.

If a program is multi-threaded, then each core will run part of that program.

Which is why Call of Duty 2 runs much smoother on my new computer.
