I was shocked to see that SRS Audio Sandbox works in games without having to input any commands or features. I played CS:S, DOD:S, BF2, Quake 4 and COD2 and I notice an improvement in sound. Selecting:
Content: Game
Preset: First Person Shooter
Speaker: Headphones
Technology: WOW HD
Should yield on the best results for some. However, if not you may need to tweak the Advance Controls.
For BF2 the most noticeable features are:
-Directional sounds are more pronounced then before (yes even if you have X-Fi)
-Richer, deeper bass levels.
-AK47 has an awesome throater sound now.
-Sniper rifle has a nice echo effect IMO
-You may need to tweak the Advance settings for that annoying commander spamming.
I use a X-Fi so I am not sure how this will turn out on other sound cards.
It comes with a 15 day trial. Try it out and see if you like it.
You can download the 15 day trial just to get an idea if you like it or not here:

Oh BTW it's wicked when playing music and movies
