So after playing bf2 for about 15 minutes or so, all of a sudden, my picture will freeze and the sound will as well. Then after about 10 seconds, the screen goes to black, but I can hear sound again. The game continues but now I have a totally black screen. I can CTRL+ALT+DEL out and I find all of my video settings have gone to default 640X480 and 60 hz refresh. Anyone run into this before?
thats a new one on me. what kind of vid card do u have? what are your system specs?
I have a similar thing, but mine 'recovers' from it after 3 seconds or so. Deadly when flying a chopper.
I have actually gotten the same thing. That happened as well as an actual computer crash where it started to beep and screech at me.
I have a 9800 Pro card and what I did was check to make sure the heatsink is free from dust. Turns out mine was semi-clogged and causing my card to over heat. I also uninstalled my drivers completely and then reinstalled. It's happened much less frequently but still happens occasionally.
Would like to know exactly what is causing it though ...

I'm pretty sure this only happened after I installed SF and had to drop in an extra 256 mb of Ram to accomadate the greater memory load. So, right now I have 2X512 MB matched Corsair sticks and 1X256 Mb Geil. They all have the same timing and all of that jazz.
So my two thoughts are right now, either video card overheating or I'm having some kind of compatibilty issues with my ram.
Any ideas?

I also have an older Sound Blaster Audigy 2, which seems like something in common. Would like to hear more about the sound card issue or reasoning ...

Yep, had that happen to me a couple of times, followed by a period of really worrying VPU (video card) crashes... Since then I installed the latest drivers, have tweaked my sytem startup apps and services and have had no problems since... Happens to me like 30% of the times I connect to a server, usually happens at the end of the loading, but for me the game just quits . I think it's a different problem, but hey if that makes u feel good my problem is alot worse.
