7.0 > Summary of the Engineer Class
Since Battlefield 2, Engineers have been an extremely important to any team. But now, the year is 2142, and there are vehicles. Not just little M1A2 tanks that can be taken out with 2 AT missiles. Huge battlewalkers reign the land, tanks that float and even a new machine brought to battle. A machine that takes down absolutely anything that is thrown at it. You know this vehicle as the A-3 Goliath. But now, thanks to this guide. You'll be able to take out absolutely anything that is thrown at you. Consider yourself a human version of the Goliath.
So, let's get stuck right in! With the stock anti-vehicle missiles:
Mitchell AV-18 Anti-Vehicle [EU]

Unlike the PAC's AV Engineer Stock Weapon (see below), the Mitchell shoots multiple projectiles at once to the target. At long distance, this is useless, because there is a high chance that it will not hit your target.
Magazines: 6
Clip size: 1
Reload time: 5.7s
Bullet Velocity: 50 meter/sec
Draw time: 1.2s
If you continue holding your fire button after you fire, it should be more accurate (controlling the missile(s)). Okay, so now you are probably asking "so why should I use this weapon?" and there is one reason. It is very, very powerful if you can use it. At tanks or APCs, if you hit the rear (I'll move onto this later) then you should be guaranteed a kill. If not, it should put it down to critical level (flames coming out of back, he'll either bail out and you can finish him off, or the projectile will kill him immediately).
Sudnip VP Anti-Vehicle [PAC]

The Sudnik VP fires a single projectile. Apart from the slightly different specifications to its EU counter part (see below), these weapons are pretty much exactly alike.
Magazines: 6
Clip size: 1
Reload time: 5.4s
Bullet Velocity: 52 meter/sec
Draw time: 1.2s

Pilum H-AVR [Level 4 Unlock]

Now we are onto the good stuff. In the first tree of the Engineer class, this is the weapon unlock. I will move onto the smaller unlocks later.
Magazines: 6
Clip size: 1
Reload time: 4s
Bullet Velocity: 300 meter/sec
Draw time: 1s
There is a short time from when you hit "fire" to when it actually fires. This is no problem if you are up close to a vehicle, but if it is a larger distance away, then you may want to aim to where it is going (slightly ahead of your interpretation of its path) rather than where it is. The projectile is small and fast, so by the time the enemy has spotted it, it will have hopefully hit them! But there is one main advantage to this weapon. It has no lock-on tone for the enemy (due to its sheer speed). Like the stock weapons, it will bring a tank or APC down to critical (on fire) level.
Mitchell SAAW 86 Anti-Air [Level 4 Unlock]

Actually looking at this weapon, it looks identical to the Mitchell AV-18, only with a standard blue LED screen stuck on the side.
Magazines: 6
Clip size: 2
Reload time: 5.4s
Bullet Velocity: 225 meter/sec
Draw time: 1.2s
A lot of people complain about this weapon. But it is highly effective if you know how to use it. Its clip contains 2 projectiles, and lucky for you - a gunship can only take 2 projectiles before it is dead (or at critical {on fire} level). It is useless on maps with no air vehicles (obviously) and is nion-impossible to kill armor with.
________________________________________________
Sub-Machine Guns. In 2142, they are absolutely devestating if you know how to use them. They have minimal recoil and has a very high ROF (rate of fire). Both Engineer gun unlocks are Anti-Vehicle or Anti-Air, and not actual weapons against infantry. So, let's get right in!
Turcotte Rapid SMG [EU]

This weapon, to say the least - is dangerous. At long range it isn't very good at all, because the actual bullets don't do much damage. It is its high ROF that causes its amount of danger on the battlefield.
Magazines: 4
Clip size: 26
Reload time: 3.2s
Draw time: 1.166s
As an engineer, your main objective is to take down vehicles and not infantry. But, should you find yourself in close combat with an enemy, you have a high chance of winning if you know what to do. The key is to get the enemy by surprise. As long as you notice them before they notice you, you should have a high chance unless you are up against something like a Voss or a Lambert.
Malkov RK-11 [PAC]

This weapon is very similar to its EU counter part, apart from a few minor differences that will rarely show any difference on the battlefield.
Magazines: 4
Clip size: 30
Reload time: 4.1s
Draw time: 1.166s

Both factions carry two items that are exactly the same, and that is: The HOFF-3000 Repair Tool and the BJ-2 Combat Knife (a knife which all soldiers on the battlefield carry).
HOFF-3000 Repair Tool

There isn't really much to say about this. You have the ability to earn up to 50 repair points per round, so repair things! Vehicles, Titan Guns and Commander assets. The H-3000 can overheat quite quickly and it takes a while to cool down. I recommend not letting it overheat.
BJ-2 Combat Knife

This isn't a knife guide so I won't go in to detail with it. If you feel like using your knfie instead of your SMG, go for it! Just don't hold me responsible if you die.
________________________________________________
There are four main classes to 2142, and of course, one of them is the "Engineer" (Also Anti-Tank from Battlefield 2) Class. There are 8 unlocks altogether (10 if you include Northern Strike) in the Engineer class, and I've already been through 2 of them. The other 6 are small unlocks (8 if you include Northern Strike) and you can attach 2 of them to your soldier, and 2 (3 if you include Northern Strike) are permanent unlocks to the kit.
AE Defuser

This is the first unlock in the left-hand side of the Engineer tree. It defuses RDX DemoPaks, APM Mines and Motion Mines. To use it, simply point it at the enemy's explosive and hit your fire button. It will defuse it, and this is especially helpful when attacking the titan.
NetBat Vehicle-ID

This is 1 of 2 (3 if you include Northern Strike unlocks). This version of NetBat allows you to identify a vehicle. NetBat will then place the vehicle on the HUD (Heads-Up Display) and display it to your squadmates.
PDS-1

The PDS-1 is very easy to use, and it is the third and final "small" unlock on the left-hand side of the Engineer tree. Simply place it along strategic road lines or near flags (Titan: silos) and when a vehicle comes in its radius it will show up on the HUD what vehicle it is and where it is moving to (until it is out of range from the PDS-1). Attaching this to a gunship is a very handy in case an enemy gunship is on your tail!
II-14 EMP Mine

This is the first unlock in the right-hand side of the Engineer tree. It is very easy to use. Simply a number of them down in a strategic point and when a vehicle runs over it, it will be EMP'ed and unable to move, as well as the attacker having visual glitches. This is basically a ground, static version of the EMP Grenade that the Support class can unlock.
DysTek Repair V2.0

This is 2 of 2 (3 if you include Northern Strike unlocks) passive unlocks for the Engineer class. It replaces the HOFF-3000. It is basically the same has the H-3000 but with the added feature of the ability to repair vehicles nearby you.
II-29 Motion Mine

These are whored everywhere on the battlefield usually. They can take down entire tanks and battlewalkers, although they are very noticable and when you close to them, they raise up in height. I recommend placing them ontop of the enemy titan when the shield goes down. It means that when an air vehicle takes off, the motion mines will follow it. Please note though, a speed-boosted FAV or air vehicle can easily "outrun" these.
MMB-5 Motion Mine Bait - NS Unlock*

By throwing this "grenade", you can decieve motion mines into following the enemy vehicles, even if the enemy planted the motion mines in first place.
SMG Clip Expansion - NS Unlock*

This is the 3rd and final passive unlock for the Engineer class. It adds the number of bullets added to the engineer SMG, making it absolutely lethal. The Malkov RK-11 is upgraded to 40 bullets, and the Turcotte Rapid is upgraded to 35 bullets.
* Note: You can unlock these if you don't have Northern Strike, but then you will not be able to unlock everything when you hit Brigadier General unless you buy Northern Strike.
________________________________________________
The Engineer class has no pistol. Therefore, use the SMG only when you need to! Engineer does work better on Titan mode because Titan mode has a lot more vehicles, however an Engineer can still be lethal on conquest mode if he knows what he is doing. Titan maps that are conquest also have a lot of vehicles, giving you the chance to have a LOT of kills.
Aim for the rear of vehicles (doesn't matter for FAV {Fast Attack Vehicle}), and aim for the legs of the Battlewalker. However, if you are using stock weapons against the Battlewalker, I suggest aiming for the body, because unlike the Pilum, it has a much bigger projectile. Aiming for the vents are recommended! You can take out infantry with anti-vehicle weapons, but I do not recommend it. As for the Goliath in Northern Strike, blow up the repair cells before attacking it. Again, aim for the rear once 3 or 4 of the repair cells have been destroyed.
As of Patch 1.20, you only need to repair a vehicle or manned Titan AA gun 50% to get a repair point. If a titan gun is unmanned and has been destroyed, you get 2 points for "bringing in back to life" (into the green zone again {see the screen above the Titan AA guns to tell whether it has been destroyed}).
Finally, it takes 3 projectiles to blow up a Titan console.
