Ok I just got a new computer and when I plug it in all I get is this really high pitched squeal.  On the little LED screen it says CPU INIT at first then a DRAM error.  When I pulled the RAM out to check, I got the same squeal with the screen staying on CPU INIT.  The noise sounds like it is coming from the CPU but im not sure.  Other specs: GPU - 8800GTS, CPU - 6600, Mobo - ASUS Strike Extreme 680i, 2GB Kingston RAM

WHAT IS MY PROBLEM??

Please, PLEASE, help me!!

Step one.
1)Kick it.

2)Spit on it.

3)Toss it a bit.

Bam you got your self a fixed PC.

Never heard of a cpu "squealing"  Double check the fans, if something is squeling, it most likly has moving parts(hardrive, fans, etc)

Sounds like your PSU or HD.

It doesnt work at all, the monitor doesnt see the computer... all I get is the squeal.  How will I know if it is a fan?  How do I check what it is?

You can lisen to the fans, put your ear closer, if it gets louder the closer you get to the fan...   Same with other components.

well you'd know if it was an error code beep, so I'm guessing this is like a continuous squeal?  like it doesn't stop until you shut off your computer?  1st thing I'd do would be to shut off all of the fans, though I doubt that would be it if your computer isn't working.  Do you have any spare working hard drives laying around?

Could be a capacitor about to go bad. Shut down, open up your computer and look around on the motherboard for leaking or bulging capacitors.

caps either last forever or are bad from the start.

i have heard of monitors that screech when the resolution is too high...

and i found this post..
"Try turning the PSU off, or unplug it from the wall. If the sound goes away, then your PSU is on the way out-- the sound is coming from the 5vsb section that feeds 5 volts to the motherboard to maintain the ATX power-on feature, among other things."

I get those messages too. It happens to me on boot up. it's the graphics card indicating you do not have enough power. Whats your Power supply? Mines is 460 and i still get the sound time to time. The problem with mines is that it takes about 30 seconds for my power supply to power every component in the pc. To fix all you gotta do is put in another pci-e 16x card run it a few times and put your old card back in works for me.
