Yesterday, my friend got shot by a man that was harassing him for several days. The man killed his grandfathers dog, and also broke my friend's wrist with a 2 by 4. I dunno if it's all the same guy, but I'm pretty certain it is.
Here is the story from my newspaper:
A teenage male is recovering after he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg Friday afternoon in his home on Red Oak Boulevard.
In the early stages of the investigation, Staff Sgt. Don Girling of the Medicine Hat Police Service confirmed there was a shooting at a home located at 16 Red Oak Blvd.
“There is one individual who’s been taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury to a leg.”
At about 3 p.m. Shane xxxxx, believed to be a Crescent Heights high school student, dialed 9-1-1 reporting he had been shot in the leg 10 minutes earlier. He told the operator the person who shot him had jumped the fence in the back yard and was wearing a black mask and hoodie.
A number of police teams, including the K-9 unit, forensic squad and tactical team rushed to the scene.
xxxxx was removed from the home on a stretcher by EMS personnel. His right ankle was heavily wrapped with a blood-soaked tourniquet. He was then rushed to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
Three hours after the shooting, Shane’s mother Debbie xxxxx said her son is fine.
“It’s a through and through on the leg,” she explained.
“They’re going to keep him in hospital overnight.”
Debbie would not comment on the shooting itself saying it’s a private matter.
At the scene about an hour after the incident Girling said, “We’ve already searched the area with the K-9 unit, and we’re continuing to do a house to house search based on the information we have at the moment.
“We will continue taking statements from people involved in this situation,” he added.
At that point, Girling reported police did not have anyone in custody, nor did they have a description of any suspects.
He added the police were not prepared to release the type of weapon used in the shooting.
A next door neighbour said she was vacuuming at the time of the incident and didn’t hear anything. But she did see all the police vehicles swarm the area and was initially frightened.
Her fears were laid to rest when police came to her door and told her there wasn’t any danger.
“It was good of them to let us know we were safe,” she added.
Another neighbour living directly behind the xxxxx's said his wife was cleaning with “the tunes blasting” and didn’t hear anything. But was a little shocked when she saw the K-9 unit scouring the area.
A fellow neighbour called to tell her the police had said to lock your doors, he added.
I took out his last name for security reasons.
This is the second shooting within about 2 years. First, a family of three was murdererd, and now my friend was shot in the leg. My city is sure getting a bad name for itself.
