After getting another part of my Uni loan in (£700) and not having to pay rent as I'm being a hobo in a mates house, I'm looking at building my first rig. I'd be extremely grateful for your opinions and any tips you could give me on what I'm putting myself in for!
These are the best prices I could find, so if you know a place where I can get some cheaper let me know.

ASUS 8800 GTS 640MB PCI E GRAPHICS CARD £200 from micom.co.uk
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 2.4GHz tekheads.co.uk £176
Seagate ST3250624A Barracuda 250GB www.ebuyer.com £37.41
ASUSTEK COMPUTER Motherboard P5n32-e Sli Plus www.adm-it.co.uk £110.66
Coolermaster CM Stacker 830 Silver and 700 watt PSU £200
Zalman CNPS9500-AT Aero Flower ebuyer.com 27.88
NEC AD7170S Serial ATA 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (black) overclockers.co.uk £22.31

Thankyou!

Nice rig your building there.  You'll love the stacker, i own the black evolution model, it's huge but plenty of room for your hardware.  Good luck with the build.

Aren't you going to have any RAM in that?

i like it...it reminds me of my new system im getting shortly...

the only thing i can suggest is buying another harddrive and setting up a SATA RAID array...it will blow your mind how much faster it is...

also, EVGA 680i mobos are marginally better (imo) for OC'ing, onboard RAID, and they support DDR1200 rated memory (asus only officially supports DDR800).

About £100 and they kick are sooo cool, also unless you are gonna be running some super high resolutions i would only go with the 320mb 8800 as they perform better untill you start getting into the 1900+ resolutions

Looks good.
Dont forget your 2GB RAM. As it sounds like you want a decent rig fairly fast, there is no need to get the latest and greatest out there. Buy what you can afford NOW and then save for the 8800GTX, 500GB SATA2 Raptors etc
etc

Oh and I did what you're doing now. I spent the better part of 18mths sleeping on my best mates futon in his lounge room saving for my PC (ahh those were the days - nothing like paying cheap rent to save for what u need/want), AND I was lucky enuff to have his spare PC on loan while I was there )
