Guys i heard that the 8800gts's 640mb and 320mb versions will have a price drop. Does anyone know when and how much?
i think when will be when the new dz10 cards come out eg the 8600 etc. but idk when they come out, tbh it will be worth waiting for thoughDavid.Podedworny wrote:

If there plannin on fighting off the X2900XTX (that it?) with this 8800 Ultra, you can suppose the ultra will cost what a GTX is now, and the GTX will fall to current GTS prices, and the 320 version lower again. umm yea that! To answer the question more clearly, yeah they will do. That ATI card is due any day now, so pricedrops across the board of all GPUS are iminent, CPU's to, intel drop em on the 22nd! Quad core here we come (H)

DO NOT buy a 8600 they only have a 128bit interface so they seriously blow, they are the new 5200 of the nvidia world!!!

why won't they just tell us when the release dates are
128 bit doesn't really matter that much in this case. You have to look at the whole memory bus, not just the bus width. It is very over clockable.coke wrote:

It's about the same performance as a 7900GT, but DX10. You can't expect much from it, it's their budget card. The ATi budget card will have a small memory bus width as well.
I have heard the lower end 8 series cards will be released April 17th.
You don't know much about computers do you?coke wrote:

2 weeks ago, saw some EVGA 8800GTS at around $420. A week ago, they were $360, and out of stock. Now, they are at $389.99 and in stock.
well, it would be nice, although id rather see the drop come in the gtx, not just the gts (which, odds are it will).
http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product … XN86GTS256 this is the better 8600, pretty cheap though!Bertster7 wrote:

I'll have an X2900, thanks.
I admit I am not the most knowledgeable but I spoken to a friend who works for a well UK computer distributer his company recently recieved these cards and the benchmarks do not really stand up favorably compared to 7900 GT etc.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

I heard from somewhere that the ATI HD 2900XT (not the XTX) is going to cost something like 400$ and it's as fast as geforce 8800GTX. It is also said that nVIDIA can easily drop the price of 8800gtx to match x2900xt after the release of 8800Ultra.
640mb GTS cards prices might drop somewhere near 300$
geforce 8800GTX and Radeon HD 2900XT for 400$ FTW!

The benchmarks for those two cards are thought to be about even. 128bit does change the performance, but is not the only thing that determines the speed of the card.coke wrote:

Not to hijack the thread, but I think the people here can answer my question. I'm planning on getting a new computer at the end of May or early June, but I don't know what gfx card will be the best bang/buck ratio. If the 2900XT is out, should I go for that?
Hard to tell at the mo the ATI R600's will be very good, but Nvidia have a few things up their sleeve, best to do a bit more research nearer to the time.Havok wrote:
