I've noticed that if I shoot someone with a sniper rifle and they're on a roof or elevated platform, that if they jump off to try to escape (in the second or two after the shot) it says I killed them, even though i didn't. This has also happened to me. Explanation?
It's like a damage kill assist, Except if you are the only person who hit him and he only has 2 bars off health and jumps off the building you get the kill.
You get credit for the kill if you were the last person to damage them in a two-second span before they die.
Same thing happens if you're in a vehicle.

This happens a lot, if someone dies just after you damage them (and no-one else damages them before they die), you'll get credited with the kill. Think of it as the damage you caused forcing them into a fatal error.
It's much the same as when you damage a vehicle enough to just set it on fire. You haven't killed the guy yet, but if he's still in his vehicle when it explodes, you'll get the kill.
