Can anyone help me with running BF2 on Windows Vista? I recently switched to vista and get a Punkbuster Global BUID ban ... not letting me play on any servers?
fuck vista. it looks great but you lose so much performance, its not worth any of the new features which are just vanity
I understand that but I'm posting to help a buddy fix his problem ... he has an 8,000 dollar computer lol so i doubt there is a performance issue.

you can try going to the punkbuster website and download it manually. i believe its one app that you run in the directory and it connects to their server and downloads the latest files.
I've read multiple posts that running it as an administrator reallys doesn't solve the problem ... other posts by vista users ... anyway the option is greyed out and not selectable ... so im not sure on what to do ... I believe we tried to manually update and got the same issue ... what I find to be weird is that one day we got the ban ... and then the next day it worked all day and then the next day it was GUID banned again? maybe some software is conflicting with punkbuster? pb wont help us out they just tell us that we broke the EULA for whatever that means
I just had this problem because I just upgraded to Vista. To get it working again you have to
1) Go to the Punkbuster website and get the manual PB updater (its called pbsetup I think)
2) Put this in your Electronic Arts>BF2>pb folder
3) Run and add BF2 as a game it needs to update
4) Select BF2 and click Update!
Worked for me!

I am trying this for BF2 not 2142 although I'm sure the directories are similar ... but you say you had the same problem having it issue you a global GUID ban for no reason?

Vista lol. Windows messenger wouldnt even run on it correctly. Nice job Billy boy.
GUID ban. That isnt just a ban from BF2. Thats a ban on every game punkbuster is on. Also I doubt it will do any good to update PB untill you get the ban resolved.

PB only hardware bans people who use hacks or programs which try to bypass punkbuster's hack detection I believe.
Sounds to me like your friend's been trying to cheat punkbuster.
BF2 is the only online multiplayer game my friend has ever played and im confident that he isn't hacking ... so to test this out ... try downloading a game like lets say Americas Army .. which uses punkbuster and try playing that?
I recommend warrock instead, it's a much smaller download and punkbuster's a lot tamer on warrock than it is on americas army, so see if he's insta banned from warrock as well.RFTBunny wrote:

If evenbalance say he violated the EULA, they're basically saying "he cheated".

I'm extremely sure if he's hardware banned it's from cheating, you don't get hardware banned for just using programs, you have to deliberately go out of your way to edit files or try to make a detected hack undetected to get a hardware ban.
well that's true but there have also been reports of programs that are not hacks interfering with pb and causing bans which i have read on several different forums ... no he did not use hacks ... i've done alot of research on the topic

the screenshots are posted in the newest thread by "Pasha" ... I posted them somewhere on that page ... He wasn't banned for cheating or using an exploit of any type or whatnot .. he was banned because some people that we were owning were crying and got embarassed infront of all their clan members ... so they submitted a shot to punksbusted or something of the sort
