Upgrading memory, suggestions

I have 1 Gb of memory (2 * 512) they are DDR2 PC2 - 3200 (200mhz). I plan on updating to 2gb. My problem what does that mean? Do I have to use PC2 - 3200 (200 mhz) or can I go higher? I just need some suggestions, Karma for help.

Also it is a factory Dell board.

Edit: replacing both sticks, Cpu-z says on SPD tab 4 slots, but i think that is true for any computer. I am guessing 3 slots ( I will open it up and find out). Tis computer was shipped to me in March of 2005 so the motherboard has to be at least 2004.

You should get the exact same because if you go higher, the memory will only work as well as the other stick of RAM. Meaning, it won't work to it's full capability.

It Depends on the motherboard. What model is it you should be able to find out on the Dell website.

^ I think he means he is replacing all the sticks but if not then do as above.

depends on the motherboard,you can try PC3200 at 2x1 GB DDR2 at 433mhz

Factory Dell boards are notorious for having stripped capability that probably cost more to have removed than to leave on. Best contact Dell, give them your computer model, and ask for suggestions (besides buying a new Dell).

Additionally, do you have 2, 4 or 3 memory slots?

agreed, dell makes this impossible. they have to limit what you w/out there products. soo the more products u buy from them the more profit they get

This is the board specs. So I take I have 4 slots available for use (up to 4 GB) and I can use either 400 or 533 per available slot. Am I reading that correctly???
