Some of of maps in BF2 are actually based in real cities, provinces, locations, etc. Here is a list of levels and their locations.
USA vs MEC
Gulf of Oman - Based on the shores of the Gulf of Oman, Oman.
Kubra Dam - Based on the city of El-Mahalla El-Kubra, Egypt. Although this level takes place at the dam, instead of the city.
- NOTE: Not 100% Relevant.
Operation Clean Sweep - Based on scattered islands of the waterway that leads into the Persian Gulf.
Road to Jalalabad - Based on the outskirts of Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
Sharqi Peninsula - Based on the Al Hajar ash Sharqi Mountains, on a fishing town called Sur, Oman. This must explain the mountains round the city.
- NOTE: Not 100% Relevant.
Zatar Wetlands - Based on the Wetlands along the Red Sea, country of origin is unknown.
USA vs PLA
Dalian Plant - Based on the city of Dalian in the eastern province of Liaoning, China. Although this level takes place at a plant, most likely a few kilometres from the city itself.
Daqing Oilfields - Based on the city of Daqing in the Heilongjiang province, China. Although this level takes place at the oilfields, which may be fairly close to the city itself.
Songhua Stalemate - Based on the Songhua River, China. It says in the briefing that the US have come out of the Russian Plains, so most likely the northern part of the river.
Dragon Valley - Based on the Minshan mountain range, China.
Wake Island 2007 - Based on the actual island of Wake Island, North Pacific Ocean.
The location of Karkand, Mashtuur City and Dragon Valley is unknown at the moment.
