when ever i try to log in to my account, the game locks up. The "2" turns into an arrow and the music plays, but it just sits there DOING NOTHING! I cant ctrl-alt-del out or alt-tab. I can logon to my account from my dads computer, and i can login into my dad's account on my computer. i am seriously stumpted here, as is EA. i have reformatted my HD, reinstalled the game a dozen times, and patched a trillion times, i have opend ports turned fire walls off, nothing seems to work. if you have experienced this please HELP!!!!! I can however play using the "play bf2 now" icon on my desktop, but when i try to escape to the menu the game locks up. i created a new account yesterday and played for a little while, but today, i get the same problem as with my orignal account. PLEASE HELP!

Happened the same to me. I discovered that it was my newly installed Norton Internet Security had blocked my BF2.

Were the mobo and/or HDD second hand?

Maybe you bought one that has been hardware banned - I believe the HDD is the most likely culprit...

just reinstall the nvidia chipset drivers and untick the network access manager/firewall and it will uninstall them, might be an idea to get the latest ones from nvidia site whilst youre there.

is it locking up on the server screen by chance?
if the pc you have isnt much kop it will freeze up if you dont have any server-filters ticked (ranked/same version only/not full/not empty etc) because it will auto update every server in the world

Im stumped matey sorry, all I can suggest is a manuall reinstall

You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.

To delete the save files:

Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):

Open My Computer.
Open the C drive.
Open the Program Files folder.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

Click on the Start button.
Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} andchoose Delete.
A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system.

do a wipe of your system, and reinstall windows, just basically start from scratch. It could be some fucked up drivers or anything, you'll probably never find the problem so just format your HD reinstall windows and get the latest drivers from ATI for GPU. Other than that i can't help you.

If bogey's suggestion doesn't work, and if, as I think you said in an earlier post, it's completely locking up your system (so you can't Alt-TAB, ctrl-alt-del or anything but reset), it sounds like some component of your system is having 'issues' - probably the video card - try downloading 3DMark05 and Sandra and giving it a good test - if you get lockups with either of those then it time start shelling out the cash on some new hardware...

Can you play any other games?
