once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Pathetic performance from ATi, nvidia has now come out with 8600, while the R600 is not out yet.
This is the card I will upgrade to, unless the ATi medium DX10 will be better.

Why buy something that was originally better and then downgraded i will wait ½ a year when vista becomes better than XP and Crysis comes out
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
im DONE with ATI. Their cards have become notorious for bad drivers.
well i will wait on evgas version, i know what i will using my tax return for...

It's called VAT.ShawN_ wrote:

I would say drivers form both companies are equally shit

thats what i was thinking, this a good price point for most people, i think i will end up getting one along with a new processor. eventually i would like to make the leap to intel, but for now i will probably go with the fx 60.max wrote:

Tests are not very good.. especially for 8600 GTS, which is comparable with 7900GS or even worse. The performance gap between 8600 GTS and 8800 GTS is just too big. Most of the reviewers blame the only 128-bit memory width. It's just crap-ATI Radeon 9700 PRO from 2003 had a 256 bit memory bus.
R600 is notably better. Level505 has a review on it already, shows that is outperforms 8800GTX in EVERY aspect.
Are they going to release an 8600GTX (or something along those lines)? I mean theres only a £60 gap (in UK) between the 8600GTS and the 320mb 8800GTS with a 320bit...........BlAiR_AgaiN wrote:

No, I think not. Just 8600 GT, 8500 GT and lower.Bell wrote:

Level505 are full of shit. Their site was riddled with inaccuracies and is now offline. There have already been a few sites claiming to have tested the R600 and none have seemed in the least bit credible, who the fuck are level505 anyway? Isn't it strange that the only article on their site is about the R600 and the site was created specifically for thaty article? Why is the site hosted on godaddy.com? Add to that the fact that the scores for other cards in the test do not match up to other benchmarks from the same games on the same settings on very similar test systems and you can see that the level505 nonsense is just complete bullshit. They're not even remotely believable scores, 42% faster in some games? That's just silly. It may be faster, but it's going to be a tight run thing.leetkyle wrote:

Don't believe these silly fake benchmarks.
That's strange, the benchmarks I've seen tell a different story. From what I've seen it tends to beat the 7900GT (only by quite a narrow margin) and does very well on complex shader operations. In newer games the 8600GTS does much better (R6:Vegas for example it totally outstrips the X1950 Pro, which tends to beat it in a lot of tests).BlAiR_AgaiN wrote:

You've also got to remember that this is just DX9 performance as well. DX10 performance could be a whole other story. Also it has much more advanced video processing features than any of its competetors.
Don't count the 8600GTS out so soon. I still reckon it is the best midrange buy at the moment.

I don't know, I trust these guys. It's not that it's shite, it's just that:
The price point of the GTS then. It's in a 200 to 230 USD price range and the faster clocked version will likely be slightly more expensive. Guys for 275 USD you can pick up a 8800 GTS 320 MB effectively doubling your performance easily.

that'll be perfect, for now. This along with a C2D 4300 and 2GB of ram should run Quake Wars just fine

Nevertheless, looking at that article the first gaming benchmark I found (GRAW), the 8600 GTS beat every other card it was tested against (I only looked at one, I couldn't be bothered to read the whole review - the conclusion suggests that it didn't fare so well in some of the other tests). It is the shader performance that will set it apart from older cards and that will become more and more evident with newer games.BlAiR_AgaiN wrote:
