Now this is all about what you think should be used, not about which is better.

We all know that the British Army use the SA80, and most probably know that its not the most reliable gun in the world although highly accurate.

Now I've read somewhere that the weapon will be replaced in 2012, so..
What weapon do you thinking they should use, eliminating the fact that a new rifle may be developed in the next few years.
Please choose from existing firearms
You can also choose a new handgun for them as well.

I'd probably agree with you, HK were the ones who redesigned the SA80 around 2000 and the make some pretty good guns.

Yeah, that's what I was basing my opinion on - apologies for not elaborating!
We might make the basis ourselves - but we'll be looking to H&K for guidance on it. I'd be looking forward for something G36-based at least.
Possibly the MP7 as another option for tank crew etc. - H&K are our greatest supplier & contractor.

The current word is keeping the SA80.

Damn everyone beat me to it. H&K 41x,G36, etc etc. Personally i'd love it if they updated the G3 for modern combat. Imagine that a G3 with a 50 round clip? And a sniper scope? Or with an AG-36 Ubgl attachment?

Its all about old school .22 lee enfields, my uncle has one (among other rifles/guns), and its such a accurate unscoped rifle. Yeah word in the forces is that the SA80 is staying, possibly with reliability redesigns.

The one the British Army used was a Semi Automatic weapon, they did'nt go for the automatic version the FN.
My dad used it and loved it along witth a lot of the old boys who'd served. My dad said he'd never suffered with the thing. You must have been lumbered with a knackered rifle mate.

yeah well, i shot the thing everyday for a week and cleaned it like crazy and when that week was up i went to my local gun shop and traded it for a springfield M14.
