For the most part we are talking about Strike at Karkand here right ? I look at it like this . There is no need at all to place a claymore up top because you know more guys want to get up there and do the same thing . So you go ahead and noob out and place your mine . Great job idiot . Now it's just you with no support . Sooner or later you are going to die . Now you have no way up . Your mine is still there . Now you have to toss a perfect grenade up top . But oh no ! YOU MISSED . Now that grenade just landed by 4 troops . Now you deserve to be booted .
And WTF is this ? You can disarm a mine before it sees you crap ? You can't bust out your wrench while on a ladder can you !?!?!?  I tried serveral times to inch my way up a ladder with SACB (Skull and Corss Bones ) and I die everytime . I tried pressing F10 to get a better view of things in my noob days . Hell now I just toss a grenade or 3 or 4 lol up there and kill the sniper first . Then worry about taking out the mine . Usually you can kill the sniper and blow up the mine with one grenade so WTF ? Why would you want to take all tha ttime and care leaving yourself exsposed just for a knife kill ? What ever floats your boat I guess .

Claymores in the game are gay anyhow . Claymores are manually activated . Not this auto detection crap . But it is a game so I can live with it . Simple rule folks . Don't place claymores around friendlies . Ans as far as checking out WHAT type of mine your are surrounded by just take a look around . It's real simple . AT mines are round , and usually placed on the road . Claymores are square for the most part and are stnding stright up . Stachle charges are retangular and usualy placed on the ground as well . So simple .

If you see the deadly, deadly skull and crossbones and decide to take your chances, thinking it's some c4 or maybe an AT mine, then it's your own damn fault. It's not the sniper's fault if curiosity killed the cat.

Some tips:
1. Don't assume the skull and crossbones will do something other than kill you.
2. Press C when you get on a ladder.
3. If a sniper laid down a claymore somewhere an hour ago that needed to be defended from imminent enemy attack (this happens to me a lot), do everybody a favor. Chuck a grenade at it. I know you have some.
4. If you accidently ran into a mine that otherwise would have been obvious, like one at the top of a ladder or one placed at a point that is used almost exclusivley by the enemy (like the back door to the TV station), then don't punish.
5. If you "missed" the big flaming crossbones symbol, then you would have died anyway (if not by the claymore then by the tank that snuck up on you while you weren't looking). Don't punish.
6. As a general rule, don't punish unintentional TKs. Unless you saw the sniper throw it at you (and even then it takes time to activate, not the best way to TK someone), it was probably an accident.

Snipers:
1. Don't lay a claymore unless there's a very good chance that an enemy will get there before a teammate.
2. Grenade claymores that will probably TK someone.
3. Don't claymore the flag.

i have been punish a lot of times, because i have planted mines near enemy bases, where i see a lot of enemies coming in my direction, the funny part is, the enemies SEE the claymore without the DAMM BIG RED SKULL and go for somewhere else, but my teammate who can SEE the DAM BIG RED SKULL, can't avoid the claymore, why? because they were thinking how many enemies they will kill while spawm camping,and they punish you becuase you intentionally tk them, cause you are an enemy spy, who sabotage the team.
what the claymore REALLY NEEDS IS A UBER BIG SIREN THAT MAKE A LOT OF NOISE, so the stupid fucking idiot teammate can realize they are near one and even having that they will step on the clymore and they will punish you, because you know how to see the future and you put that claymore right there intentionally, to TK him, cause you already knew he was going to pass for that place.

No, everybody sees the big red skull unless you do something to turn it off. Why you would turn off something that says, "STAY AWAY OR DIE!" is beyond me.

As for the different colors for different bombs, I agree with that. I have died a couple times mistaking clays/mines for c4. People say look at them, but when all you see is a big red warning its hard to tell what the item under it is until your to close. Thinking that its a pack of C4 in front of you because no sniper would be dumb enough to place a claymore on a friendly flag right next to a suply crate can be a fatal mistake. But you know what, even then I dont punnish! It was my fault for running into it and the sniper allready got the -4 points, so even though I think he was an idiot to place it there he doesnt deserve a punnishment for my unfancy footwork.

I agree that clays/mines shouldnt be placed in a spot to prevent team mates from crossing, but if they are, go around. As for snipers complaining about support, if you dont like me dropping a few ammo packs next to you for future use then jumping off the other side of the building, to bad:P If I feel the need to climb a building a clay on the ladder is annoing, and I would want to climb it regardless of if your there or not (well, unless I'm right under you and I notice you call for ammo).

Anyways, with clays/mines the fault lies with the person who tripped it every time unless its placed on a spawn point. But there are places that should not be clayed/mined simply because its not nice to keep your team trapped somewhere just so you can have your roof or whatever all to yourself.

seth infinite your prob one of those dumb fuks that place a claymore at the top of a ladder and expect no1 will want to come up the realities are only put down claymores when your all alone and there are a few enemies looking for you, thats what they are for in the game and in real life...

:edit: -maybe EA should rethink the dynamics when it come to who can get punished instead of being lazy fuks and just making it if you get tked you can punish...

eg. not being able to punish when you stand in front of a jet taking off or sitting of the roof of a tank, you fall off and get run over, shit like that, this probably wont happen but its a thought

if im on a roof top i could leave claymore at the laddar.. but when a team mate climbs up[ he can see the clay more up there he sees the skull and cross bones.. but he doesent stop... i dont no why.. :S he dies.. he gets a death and has to wait 15 seconds and for what... so u could sumhow be an idiot.. ?

also for you people whining about ladders.  You do realizes that the claymore will not go ff, I repeat WILL NOT GO OFF, untill you get off the ladder.  Thus, always climb till you can see the top of what ever you are climbing too, then. . . OPEN YOUR EYES YOU FUCKING IDIOTS AND LOOK FOR A GREEN BOX ON 2 LEGS.  It may not have a red skull on it, because it may not be a frinedly claymore up thier.  You can see them well beforehand, trust me on this.  I LOVE killing snipers, my favorite pass time.  Primarly because I love playing a sniper well.

If you die from a claymore, you were likly beeing an idiot.  rarely have I seen a well placed claymore.  Hidden in a bush, ect.  so that you could not see it before it goes boom.

Why don't you guys just play on a server that doesn't allow TK punish?

My server is set up like such as my group of friends and I that run our own server are all sick of the same exact things everyone here is bitching about.

In addition, whenever I start laying Mines or Claymores, I type out the all CAPS that I'm doing such and 'generally', it works for the most part.

Most of the time, I really think that people don't know its an actual claymore.  More often than not, if its laying on the ground in an alley, I think its a pack of C4.  I have been an idiot before and gotten too close to it before I realized it is ideed a claymore.  Same goes for confusing C4 with landmines.  I have driven too close to what I thought was C4 only have it explode and take me out as a LandMine.  For that I blame the idiot teammate that place landmines all over the road and blocking the only way out.

And yes, I agree with the other poster about looking over the ladder rung before getting on to a roof.  A second of prevention could save your life.  Too bad most people don't care and just hit Page Down and just wait to respawn.

I guess our bf2 experience is not dissimilar to real life: mines in general are very 'dumb' weapons and often do more harm to your own team than the enemy. AT/Claymore mines will never win a round for you but can often cost you big time in tk's.

My suggestion: get on with the business of winning the game through positive action, not area denial.

in real life u will REALLY REALLY look out for the mines, so lets not tok about that.

mines, claymore or ATmines are DEFENSIVE weapons. Hence they are usually placed at FRIENDLY locations. nothing wrong with that.
wat is wrong is those people that mess up the defenses of the flag by going for the redskull jumppads, thinking they can jump to enemy flag faster.

having said that, dun fucking lay mines till none of your teammates can't get out from the base. lay to leave a road out. you shld lay such that they can get out by one side. enemies usually rush thru the centre of the road so, u shld know where to place it.

when patch 1.2 comes out and mines can't be destroyed....and a stupid idiot surrounds the flag with mines....and no one spawns as engrs ... ... ...

i play on fairly high detail and i can see claymores even when there in grassy areas and im not even on the look for them... alot of snipers simply wont lay claymores to cover there 6 unless there ontop of a building

IF you are a sniper and place a claymore at the top of a ladder covering your six...........good for you.  It is a lot better than getting a knife in the back.   For those of you that like to bitch about not needing claymores in a friendly area....guess what....during the game that aread might not always be friendly.  A lot of you make no sense....like walking in front of a vehicle going at full speed and punishing.....that is plain idiotic! Learn how to play...snipers have their eye in a scope and since most people don't understand that you play as a team and have a support with the sniper to cover him/her and provide resupply, the sniper has to protect himself.....that is why snipers are given the claymore to begin with.  if you are stupid enough to keep getting claymored by your own team mates then you are just stupid and need to find another game to play.   The punish button is for when a team member kills you on purpose....not to show everyone how fucking stupid you are.  Quit trying to get the skull power ups and play the game right!

Pisses me off too when I've got a claymore gaurding my back and some retarded teammate just has to come see what kind of mine it is sitting by the ladder on top of a building where single shots are being fired at a very slow rate.

If someone is near me heading to the ladder I won't deploy a claymore... they can gaurd my back.  If I'm on a multi level building I will leave the lower areas umined and just gaurd the highest part where I prefer to hang out. 

For the life of me though I can't figure out why idiots have to punish when it's their dumbass that runs into the mine.  If you really just have to get up on top of that building and bring attention to a sniper that already has a 10:0 K/D then by all means... toss a nade to remove the mine.  If you miss and hit the sniper it's ok because your dumbass was gonna get him killed soon enough anyway.

The only time I can see a justifiable punish is when a claymore is placed near an enemy base spawn area and the sniper doesn't toss a nade on it before going somewhere else.  You take a chance laying it down and you have to suck it up if you kill a friendly.  Other then that...

The funny thing about this thread is how everyone that kills people with mines and claymores calls the rest of US idiots for running into them.

Well, most servers I play on are very, very busy...and the guys running around littering the streets with mines are not only hampering the enemy, it fucks US up too.

If mines and such were the end all of warfare, everyone would simply fly over and sprinkle them the entire length of the battlefield.  But they deny the battlefield to your team as well...which is the point YOU aren't getting.

ok putting claymore at thte top of a very long ladder like i did last night to stop me getting jumped , to have a friendly idot climb all the way to the top and kill him self , hello it is a  claymore dont touch i ever climbed up there and saw an opponets claymore and i didnt get killed do to not tagging it , but the same guy the TK punnished me tragered it

so in some cases people on your team dont look and are plane stupid and like getting them self killed on there own teams claymores if it at the top of a ladder doont go there it not that hard to understand really

You seem to miss the point here.  First off, maybe YOU defend flags, but the overwhelming majority of snipers on pub servers do not.  In fact, they are useless to just about all of the effort.  In fact, I'd love to see the sniper kit limited to a certain percentage of teammates.

Second, again you miss the point.  I KNOW you're looking in your damn scope.  But lots of other games have sniper classes and they do NOT have thins like claymores.  Your kill/death ratio is still far ahead of any assault or medic class even if you do occasionally get knifed.

I don't want to watch out for YOUR shit while I'm playing.  I don't want to have to avoid YOUR area while I'm playing.  It's not that I cannot...it's that I don't want to because again, I'm busy capping flags, defending flags, etc.  In all but rare instances, snipers are very limited in their contribution to the overall effort.

Again, exceptions are there.

Isn't it really easy to cap someone while they are climbing a ladder?  If you are that busy, if the place is crawling with enemy so bad that you don't even have time to take one half a second to look for a claymore....then is it really all that smart to be climbing a ladder?  Sounds like an excuse to me.

You could say that about any kit when it is being played by an idiot.  Seems to me that the ability to contribute is a quality of the player, rather than the kit.  If you can't make sniper kit work for yourself, good on you for playing something else.  Some other folks aren't quite that smart.  That doesn't make the kit worthless. 

I do my best work when I can shoot from a distance where the target is almost covered by the crosshairs.  Drives them shithouse wondering where you are because you can barely be seen without a scope.  The downside is the friendlies (like you) have no clue what is going on either.  My point?  You have probably been saved from a death by a good, friendly, sniper a few dozen times without even knowing it.
