Having shown you this excerpt, do you use the silenced pistol as something other than a backup weapon? For example, you're infiltrating a base, and a bunch of guys are standing there. Do you use your "ultimate stealth" and kill them with your silenced pistol (from the shadows, obviously), or do you run in there, carbine a-blazing?

Personally, I don't, since most commanders aren't clueless enough to not notice the guy sneaking all the way in from across the map. It seems like a pretty good idea, though.

Yes.

However, the damage of the pistol is usually not enough to risk it over the swift kill that a knife offers.

In BF2, I don't think the silenced pistol has the ability to be utilised properly. Like it is in games such as Hitman and Deus Ex.
Sure, if you're camped under a bush, you can probably kill someone undetected, though sneaking into a base guarded by 4 troops with a pistol probably isn't such a good idea. A grenade will do the same effect but with one shot.
I believe the silencer is just there for "show"

It is possible to shoot someone in the head and not kill them.

It is possible to shoot someone in the head and not kill them.

Only if I'm really low on ammo for my primary (as in down to one clip or less). This is usually the case if I'm in an enemy base because I would have had to go guns blazin' just to get there.

If there are more enemies around I use nades, if there is only one and I can kill him with without noticing me I use shockpaddles.

Always try to use your full amount of nades before you enter a gunfight with the enemy.
