http://www.the-pacific-war.com/A California newspaper recently interviewed Charles Tatum, a veteran from the battle of Iwo Jima and a recipient of the Bronze Star. In the article, there is mention of Tatum serving as a consultant to the upcoming series. Series creator and head writer Bruce McKenna, who wrote several "Band of Brothers" episodes, said Tatum has been "a fantastic resource, a tremendous trooper" in providing accurate details about life and battle conditions in the World War II Marine Corps and serving under the legendary Basilone.
Captain Dale Dye, who has worked as a military advisor on dozens of movies, including "Saving Private Ryan," "Rules of Engagement" and "Alexander" (where he also directed the second unit), plans to direct his own movie. "I've gone to school for 20 years now with Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Brian De Palma, and I've considered that a college," he said. First, though, Dye will re-team with "Band of Brothers" creators Tom Hanks and Spielberg on another series for HBO, this one focusing on the battle with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II.
The project is going to be spearheaded by Bruce McKenna who was also one of the main writers on BOB1. The name will also NOT be Band of Brothers. It will be simply called THE PACIFIC WAR (or THE PACIFIC) and will not be associated with any of the characters from BOB1. It is rumored that the series will follow a USO troupe who travel the Pacific trying to keep Allied soldiers entertained and morally up beat about the war. By doing this, the writers will be able to interwine through various soldiers and civilians who are caught in the conflict. We'll see the stories of cooks, nurses, pilots, infantry, and many others. Their are rumors that the characters will be much more diverse than before, and therefore we'll probably see main characters that are Latino, Irish, British, African American, etc.
